William Pratt, 5th child of Lieut William Pratt, born May 14, 1653, married Hannah Kirtland, supposed to be the sister of the first John Kirtland, who settled at Saybrook February 20, 1678, by whom he had 5 children. He was a man of note in the civil, military and religious affairs of the town, being often appointed selectman, surveyor, captain of the militia, committee of the church, etc. He was a large land holder in Saybrook and Hebron. Capt. William Pratt died March 14, 1718, age 65, as appears upon his monument, which is still standing in the old burial ground at Essex. Children: Benjamin b. June 14, 1681, m.
