[31258] Find A Grave memorial 81806118 offers: "The Indiana Register of July 3, 1867 describes his murder on Monday the 1st. It states that his father-in-law was Nicholas Van Devinder. You can see the story of John's murder via this link, which makes it clear that John's wife was the daughter of Nicholas Van Devinder. usgw archives (Scroll down to 3 July 1867) John was in his parents' household in Gaskill Twp. on the 1840 and 1850 Census. John, his older brother Michael and his younger brother Abraham, all moved to Canoe Twp., Indiana County (7 miles due south) and married there (Michael and Abraham married daughters of John Devers). During the Civil War, John enlisted in the 21st and came home safely. However, a dispute led to his murder on July 1, 1867 as described in the Indiana Register of July 3."
