Willhide of 691 Eighth street. The Rev. R. L. Summers, pastor of the Methodist church at Yuma, Arizona, read the marriage service for Miss Bemis and Mr. Willhide in the parsonage of the church June 7. The young couple kept the news of the marriage secret until Saturday, when it was revealed to their parents. For the informal ceremony Miss Bemis, a charming brunette, wore a smart navy blue and beige suit with halo hat, sandals, and other accessories in navy. The couple was not attended. Two well known families are united bv the marriage. Miss Bemis is a member of the prominent Bemis family whose forefathers were early settlers in San Bernardino valley and she is a native of Rialto. Mr. Willhide, also a native of California, has resided in San Bernardino most of his life and his parents are identified with musical groups of this city. Both Miss Bemis and Mr. Will hide are graduates of San Bernardino high school, she in 1936 and he in 1935. They later attended the Junior college, where the romance had its inception. The bridal couple are now at home to their friends at 864 1/2 Olive street. Mr. Willhide is employed as a salesman with Stockwell and Binney and is also continuing in his work as violin instructor."

E. Williams. The victim's Killed in county husband, traffic wrecks Willhide, Foster 30, is in a serious condition at the county hospital from injuries suffered in the accident. Coroner Williams set an inquest for 2 p.m. Thursday, after San Bernardino police reported that Mr. and Mrs. Willhide's car was struck broadside at the intersection by an automobile driven by 16-year-old Lawrence E. Davey of Corona. City Traffic Officers Herman Aarup and John II. Bromilow told the coroner their investigation showed that young Davey ran the boulevard stop on G street at a high rate of speed and crashed into the car driven by Mr. Willhide. The latter was westbound on Fifth street, while the Corona youth was traveling south on G, in the report. Witnesses to the collision were Mr. and Mrs. A. G. Taylor of Colton. Surviving besides her husband are her parents, Mr. and Mrs. L, Roy Bemis, and two sisters, Nora and Martha Lee Bemis, all of Rialto. She was a native of Rialto. The body was removed to the Ingold Funeral home where the inquest will be held, and funeral services will be conducted Friday at 2 p.m. at the Rialto Methodist church, of which she was a member, and burial will follow in Rialto Park cemetery. - July 10, 1946

[53404] "The Bangor Daily News [Bangor, Maine]," 8 April 2023: "Cutler - On April 4, 2023, our sweet mother departed from this world and was reunited with her loved ones who passed before her. Arline was born on January 15, 1939, at home in Machias, the only child of Roger Prince Dunbar and Ethel Mae (Flynn) (Dunbar) Roix. Arline was her Daddy's pride and joy. At the tender age of 5 years old, she lost her father who tragically drowned in Gulfport, MS while serving in the U.S. Coast Guard. She graduated salutatorian in 1957 from Machias Memorial High School. Arline was known for her love of animals, especially cats. She enjoyed picking wild strawberries, jarring pickles in the fall and feeding the birds. Reading was one of her favorite pastimes. She loved going on rides with her husband Vance, and in later years daughter, Kathy. In earlier years, she was the driver taking her aunt, Hazel, whom she was especially fond of and her mother, Ethel. She was a frequent visitor of many area cemeteries and faithfully placed flowers on her father's grave every year the first ones being simply a hand picked bouquet of bluets, a spring wildflower. She was predeceased by her parents; her stepfather, William Roix; her aunts, Hazel Scoville, Arline Graves, Helen Dunbar and Ethel Brown; uncle, Kendall Dunbar; cousins, Peter Scoville and Nard Scoville; husband, Vance Davis; and former son-in-law, George Harmon. She will be remembered by her daughters from her first marriage, Kathy Q. Harmon, Kelley Q. Cates (Greg) and Billie Q. Lamarre (Kevin), and her second marriage, Cynthia D. Albee; grandchildren Natalie Houde, April Armstrong, Crystle Fergerson, Cassie Cates, Katie Richardson, Kayla Gaudette, Michael Lamarre, Leslie Albee and Zachary Albee. She also is survived by 25 great-grandchildren, which she would often say, 'Wouldn't my father be surprised!' She also leaves behind her cousins Clark Scoville, Leslie Dunbar Lord, Jackie Dunbar Murch; and brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Norma Davis whose kindness will never be forgotten; and a special cousin, Dolores Scoville Hanson, who was like a sister to her. At a later date, to be determined, she will be laid to rest at New Cutler Cemetery. A portion of her ashes will be buried with her father at Greenwood Cemetery, Jonesport, ME."

[29248] http://helenesgenes.com/Parker.html offers: "Brooksville, ME "A town in the Revolution" by Snow; 'Eben Perkins Parker, son of Simeon, above, was living on the Parker farm in 1885 then upward of eighty years of age. His memory of early events was clear and he told the following story. '... A party of men, comprising a dozen of more, were on their way to Castine to fight the British at all risks, and stopped at his father's, (some four miles from the Castine ferry), to rest themselves and get some dinner. His mother after preparing some dinner for them, and while they were eating thought she would test their courage, and being possessed of a red capelet cloak, she took it under her arm, slipped out the back door, went into the pasture, caught their old horse, led him down the road some distance toward Castine, put on her red cloak streaming in the wind, and making all the clatter she could. Just as she came over the brow of the hill below the house one of the men having finished his dinner came to the door. The first thing he saw was the red cloak coming over the hill. He just stopped long enough to scream through the door, 'The red-coats are coming, the red-coats are coming! and immediately took to his heels; all the rest dropping knives and forks, and following as fast as their legs would carry them, and by the time the lady got to the house, there was not a man to be seen or found in the vicinity... Another episode told by Mr. Parker that he heard from his father concerned '...some four or five deserters from the British at Castine, (who) had managed to get across the river into Brooksville. They got up to the head of the river, and came to his father's just as night was coming on. He kept them all night, and after giving them a hearty breakfast, sent a hired man with them to pilot them to Blue Hill. Before noon a party of half a dozen soldier, with a sergeant in command arrived at the house in pursuit. He detained them until after dinner, and then, by many little artifices still detained them till quite late in the afternoon, and then sent my father, with an older brother, as pilot to show them the was to Naskeag, an entirely different road from that the deserters had taken, thus giving ample time to get beyond danger of being overtaken. Quite a number more of deserters, also came this way, and by the help of a few settlers here, by misleading their pursuers, etc., all made their escapes, and two of them, Joseph Daley and William Nevils, came back after the British had left Castine, settled here and raised families, and their descendants reside in this vicinity at the present day.'"
