Cooke, b. abt. 1827 in Nova Scotia. Martha was listed on the 1860 census with her family. They resided in Weymouth, Norfolk, Massachusetts. On August 30, 1867 Martha married Thomas L. Foster in Weymouth, Mass. Thomas was the son of Leonard and Nancy Lowell Foster. Thomas and Martha were living in Braintree, Norfolk, Mass. when the 1870 census was made. Thomas worked in a blacksmith shop while Martha kept house. The couple lived in Cooper, Washington County, Maine when the 1880 census was made. Also in the home was their daughter, Flora M., born about 1871. Martha filed for and was granted a widow's pension after Thomas's death. The form stated that Thomas served on the Colorado. In Martha's obituary, the daughter was named Florence Foster, rather than Flora. Per Martha's obituary, she came to the Asheville area about 1906, where she worked for the Salvation Army. Funeral services were conducted by John Bouters, an Adjutant for the Salvation Army, who was with the Asheville branch from about 1909 until 1912. Burial was in the Riverside Cemetery, per the obituary."
