In 1888, she married Prince Oscar of Sweden and Norway, who thus wed below royalty, lost his royal titles and thereafter was called Prince Oscar Bernadotte in Sweden, his wife also then being given the courtesy title of Princess Bernadotte. Also with her husband granted that title in the nobility of Luxembourg, plus the title of Countess of Wisborg, by Grand Duke Adolph in 1892. In Sweden, the special name Bernadotte af Wisborg also was approved by that country's king and developed among certain descendants. She was not considered Swedish royalty but a member of the extended Royal Family (Kungafamiljen). [51304] "The Ellsworth American [Ellsworth, Maine], 6 February 2015": "Orland - Charles Ivyl Soper, 80, passed away peacefully Feb. 2, 2015, at a Bangor hospital after a 30-plus year battle with renal failure and numerous associated complications. He was the oldest child of Horace P. and Mildred E. (Hutchings) Soper. He and his stillborn twin, Paul, came into this world April 19, 1934, at their great-grandparents home on Leaches Point. He was born with a wonderful disposition. He was cheerful, calm, devoted, loving, multi-talented, and above all: stoic. Charlie attended Orland sub-primary and graduated eighth grade from the one room, village schoolhouse in Orland. e graduated from Bucksport High School in 1953. He played football for BHS with his brothers, Edwin and James, where in 1953 they were Little 10 All-Conference Champions. Charles was also named All-Conference Center that year. He graduated as a mechanic from SMVTI. He enlisted in the naval reserves at 17, and served five years. He was released from the Navy after it was discovered he had signs of renal disease. He was then drafted by the Army and was stationed in Ulm, Germany, serving in the Fourth Armored Division for two years. During Christmas break in December of 1955, he married his high school classmate and love of his life, Lucille F. (Lord) Soper. They spent 59 joyous years together; the first three years they spent apart due to school and military obligations. After he was discharged from the Army in June of 1959, Charles and Lucille returned from Germany and moved to East Holden. He began his 42-year career starting at International Harvester, and then moved on to St. Regis Paper mills harvesting division in the Downeast woods, repairing heavy equipment. He soon transferred to their garage at the mill in Bucksport. He later became a boiler-certified welder for the maintenance department, working for Champion and, finally, retiring from International Paper in 2000. In 1964, his family moved into the home that he built in Orland from timber he harvested from the property. From 1967 to 1968, he built his beloved camp on Pleasant River Lake, where he spent countless hours sailing. He served 35 years on the Orland Volunteer Fire Department, spending most of that time as assistant fire chief. He worked with Pack 102 of the Orland Cub Scouts, and served time as assistant Boy Scout leader while his boys were young. He enjoyed his time among the islands of Penobscot Bay sailing and lobstering. Charlie was diagnosed with renal failure in the early 1980s. He survived peritoneal and hemodialysis to eventually receive the ultimate gift of life - a kidney transplant donated by his son, Foster, in 1987. This allowed him to enjoy 27 more years with his beloved wife, children, grandchildren, and a little time with his great-granddaughter. Charlie is survived by his wife and steadfast caretaker, Lucille; his son, C. Wesley Soper and his wife, Rose Rapp; his daughter, Cheryl S. McGraw and her husband, Bart I. McGraw; and grandchildren: Joshua W. Soper, Brooke M. Thomas, Aryn M. McGraw, Tristan I. McGraw and great-granddaughter Audrey Bell Soper. He is also survived by siblings Edwin H. Soper, James F. Soper, David W. Soper, Patricia M. (Soper) Downs; brother-in-law, Linwood E. Lord and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Horace and Mildred Soper; parents-in-law, Daryl C. and Bertha M. Lord; twin brother, Paul; sister, Marie; and son, A. Foster Soper. Charlies family would like to thank all of the guardian angels that helped us throughout his illnesses, which includes: the Bucksport Ambulance crew, who went above and beyond; Aubrey C. Ayer Jr. and Leo Grunwald Sr., who would stop by with donations collected from his family of mill co-workers while he was unable to work in the early years of his kidney failure; Dr. David Levy and the staff at EMMC; Dr. Anthony Soyoun, Dr. Anthony Monaco and the transplant team at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston; Dr. Clifford Rosen at the VA in Togus; Dr. Van Kirk and the palliative care staff; family and friends Richard Lord, Galen and Karen Cousins, Roger and Margot Flannery; and many others, too numerous to mention but not any less appreciated."
