[44098] An unverified Rootsweb file by Richad Hodgson offers re: Thomas Sibbald: Witnessed charter in 1371. Probable builder of Balgonie Castle. The Sibbalds were probably descended from Sybaldi, who flourished in the middle of the 12th century. Sir Duncan Sibbald was living in Balgonie before 1246 (he is later mentioned in a Papal Bull of 1250). The Great Tower of Balgonie Castle was built for Sir Thomas Sibbald of Balgonie, Lord High Treasurer of Scotland, about 1360. His wife is reported to be Sarah Nee (b. 1386 in Fifeshire).
