Find A Grave memorial 8316944 offers: "Son of John Peterman and Barbara Eckert, married Sarah Ridgely, April 12, 1832, Crawford Co., OH. In the early 1820's, Michael purchased from the US Government property in Liberty Township between what is now U.S. 30 (Lincoln Hwy or Mansfield Rd.) and Stetzer Rd. A road connecting these two roads and adjacent to the property became known as the Peterman Road. U.S. 30 is the original trail used by the settlers on their way west. The Peterman farm is approximately one mile south of that trail and on the eastern edge of Liberty Township. Michael was a veteran of the Civil War. He died Friday morning at 6:30. Funeral held at his home at the corner Spring & Charles. Obituary: Died on Friday morning, August 6 1880, at 6:30 o'clock, Michael Peterman, in the 84th year of his age. Funeral at his late residence corner of Spring & Charles Streets. Friends are invited. [Crawford County Forum - Friday, 6 August 1880] On 13 March 1828, Michael Peterman, of Ohio, purchased from the government 80 acres in the east half of the southwest quarter section 35 t2s r17e. Michael and his brother John were wagon masters on a train during the Gold Rush years [1849]. When John's wife, who had accompanied them on the trip, became ill, the couple returned home. Michael remained with the train, but by the time they reached Missouri, he too had taken ill. Michael & his family were taken into the home of the nortorious James brothers and nursed back to health. Upon recovering, Michael & his family also returned home."
