[1459] Robert was educated at Rheims under Gerbert (later Pope Silvester II). "As the ideal of mediaeval Christianity he won his surname of `Pious' by his humility and charity, but he also possessed some of the qualities of a soldier and a statesman." Crowned in 12-987, he became sole king on his father's death in 996. Marriage irregularities led to his excommunication by Pope Gregory V.{-Encycl.Brit.,`56,19:347} "Ancestral Roots..." (Balt., 1992) 101-21 gives his birth year as 985. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_II states: "In 987, Roberts father had the nobles crown him as successor at Orléans on December 30th, thereby confirming the house of Capet as rulers of France. After Robert became king he did as his father and crowned his eldest son Hugh as his successor. But, due to Prince Hugh's death, another son, Henri, became king. Robert, despite marital problems that saw him temporarily excommunicated by Pope Gregory V, was a very devout Roman Catholic, hence the name Robert the Pious. He was very musically inclined and was a composer, a chorister, and a poet, making his palace a place of religious seclusion, where he conducted the matins and vespers in his royal robes. Part of Robert's piety at the time, was because he did not tolerate heretics and harshly punished them. The kingdom Robert inherited was not large, and in an effort to increase his power, he vigorously pursued his claim to any of the feudal lands as they became vacant which action usually resulted in war with a counter-claimant. In 1003, his invasion of Burgundy was thwarted and it would not be until 1016 that he was finally able to get the support of the Church and be recognized as the Duke of Burgundy. The pious King Robert II made few friends and many enemies, including his own sons Henri and Robert. They turned against their father, in a civil war for power and property. King Roberts army was beaten and he retreated to Beaugency outside Paris. He died in the middle of the war with his sons on July 20, 1031 at Melun, France. He was interred with his third wife, Constance d'Arles (973-July 25, 1032) in Saint Denis Basilica. He was succeeded by his and Constance's second son, Henri I of France." [57392] The unverified file LKQ1-XFM in familysearch.org offers: "When Charity Hartford was born in 1730, in Rochester, Strafford, New Hampshire, United States, her father, Stephen Nicholas Harford Jr, was 23 and her mother, Susannah Wentworth, was 23. She married Gilbert Perkins on 20 August 1749, in Rochester, Strafford, New Hampshire, United States. They were the parents of at least 2 sons and 3 daughters. She died in 1760, in Coös, New Hampshire, United States, at the age of 30."
His name and this family are NOT verified, and are as received via internet 10/95. An unverified listing states William is son of Walter Haines and Mary Watford, married 27 April 1607 in Renhold, Bedfordshire.
http://www.genyourway.com/sh-am.html offers (without citing proof): "William Haynes was baptized June 6, 1624 at Renhold, Bedfordshire, England, the son of Walter and Mary (Watford) Haynes. The name "Haynes" also appeared in the records as 'Haines' and 'Hanes'.
"William and his brother, Richard, came to America on the ship 'Griffin' from Dunstable, Bedfordshire, England. They arrived at Boston, Massachusetts on September 18, 1634. It appears that their parents died in 1633 and 1632. The two boys, ages ten and thirteen, were sent or taken to America.
"William settled in Salem, Massachusetts sometime before July 7, 1644 as that is when he was appointed at a General Town Meeting to patrol the settlement each Sabbath Day. The patrol consisted of two men to make notes of Sabbath breakers and report their names to authorities. Prior to 1644 he, among others, purchased 540 acres north of Salem, Massachusetts. This land is presently Danvers, Massachusetts.
"It appears that William and his brother were men of great wealth and influence, although William was not mentioned in his father's will while Richard was.
"Sometime prior to July 1644, William married Sarah Ingersoll. She was baptized July 1, 1627 at Sutton Parish, Bedfordshire, England, the daughter of Richard and Ann (Langley) Ingersoll. They had arrived from England on May 15, 1629.
"William and Sarah (Ingersoll) Haynes were the parents of three known children, two sons and one daughter.
"William died the early part of 1651 only about 27 years old. Sarah then married Joseph Houlton on November 13, 1651 at Newbury, Massachusetts. Sarah died in 1719 in Houlton, Essex, Massachusetts about 92 years old."
