"The Standard [Lykens, Pennsylvania], 13 April 1923" p. 1: "Charles Hartman, aged 67 years, one of Tower City's best known and most highly respected citizens died suddenly Wednesday morning at 7:30 o'clock at his home, 117 Grand Ave., while seated at the table eating breakfast. Death being due to heart failure. At the time of his death he held the office of borough supervisor. Fraternally he was a member of the Knights of Golden Eagle. To survive is an only sister, Mrs. Mary Phillips, formerly of Williamstown, who has been making her home with him since the death of his wife several years ago. His funeral will take place Saturday morning, 10 o'clock with services at the house by the Rev. Chas. Slinghoff. Burial will be made in McAllister's cemetery in Clark's Valley."

He was born January 13, 1928, in Reinerton, PA, to the late Charles E. and Ella (Masterson) Koons. He is survived by his wife LaMay Machamer Koons whom he was married on September 7, 1948. Also surviving are children Lyle Koons Jr. and wife Michelle; Lynn Reinhold and husband Samuel; Lonny Koons and wife Kathy; Charles Koons and wife Dory; Lance Koons; Lorne Koons and wife Michelle, as well as grandchildren: Jeanette Woodley, Ashley Snyder, Samuel Reinhold III, Michelle Mutchler, Glenn Koons, Kaleb Koons, Kyler Koons, Autumn Koons and several great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by son Dorry Koons, grandson Mark Koons, sisters Jane and Sonya and brother Gerald. He worked at Bethlehem Steel for 33 years before retiring in 1982. He was a World War II veteran serving with the U.S. Navy volunteering and serving 2 tours on the Navy Destroyer Isbell in the Pacific Theater with duties from Philadelphia, San Diego to the Sea of Japan. Lyle was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed playing soccer, chess and penny poker with his children, grandchildren, relatives and friends."
