[1572] Robert was regent of the County of Holland during the minority of Dirk V, whose mother Robert had married. At his marriage Baldwin V gave Robert his imperial fiefs. Baldwin VI disputed his right to these lands, but was killed in the ensuing war - Robert now gained the Emperor's support and tutelage of Baldwin VI's children and Baldwin VI's widow appealed for help to Philip I of France who lost the battle near Cassel to Robert 20 Feb 1071 whereupon Robert was confirmed in Crown of Flanders and the fiefs of Imperial Flanders. {-Encycl. Brit., 1956, 9:357} One source gives another child as Matilda of Flanders, d. 1115 in Denmark, m. Knut Sweynsonn (b. 1040 in Denmark). Meredith Colket lists his year of arrival as 1639, Boston. Boston, Mass. records list him as being a watchman before the court in 16392 [sic]. In 1643 he was listed among the inhabitants of Duxbury who were able to bear arms. Apparently he remained in the area of Duxbury and nearby Plymouth until the late 1640's for we find that on April 3, 1645, one John Eddy, aged eight years, was apprenticed to "Francis Goulder of Plymouth, yeoman." Since it is recorded that young Eddy learned the trade of a blacksmith from Goole, it seems evident that Francis practiced smithing as a trade.
By 1649 Goole had moved to Braintree, Norfolk County, Massachusetts, where he was living with his wife, ROSE. The first five children of Francis and Rose Goole were born in Braintree and they continued to reside there until late in 1659 or early in 1660, when they moved to what was then the frontier at Chelmsford, Middlesex County, Massachusetts, It was at Chelmsford that Francis and Rose made their home for the rest of their lives. Francis built the Rose house, presumably named for his wife.
At the Chelmsford town meeting of October 7, 1673, the town made a contract with Joseph Barrett, son-in-law of Francis Goole, to build a house on Robins Hill, outside Chelmsford. When built the house consisted of one room, 16 feet by 18 feet, covered with a single thickness of boards, and had one window. The house was undoubtedly built to serve as a Lookout post to warn the town of approaching hostile Indians, at that time a danger in the area. Francis---Goole, or Goold, signed an agreement with the town selectmen stating that "I have taken to hier the house and land that I now live in of the selecttmen of the town For which house and land I Do covenatt with thin to pay yearly the sum of one peck of endian Corn For the towns use as wittnes my hand this last tuesday in Desembor 1673. (Signed) Francis Goold, his mark."

She married, fourthly, George Talbot, 6th Earl of Shrewsbury, son of Francis Talbot, 5th Earl of Shrewsbury and Mary Dacre, on 9 February 1568. She died on 13 February 1607/8 at age 80. Elizabeth Hardwicke also went by the nick-name of 'Building Bess'. Elizabeth Hardwicke also went by the nick-name of Bess of Hardwick. From 1543, her married name became Barley. From 1547, her married name became Cavendish. From circa 27 August 1559, her married name became St. Loe. Her married name became Talbot. She prevailed on her first husband, who died without issue, to settle his estate on her and her heirs, who were abundantly produced from her second marriage. Her third husband, who was very rich, was led by her persuasions to make a similar disposition of his fortune, to the utter predudice of his daughters by a former wife; and now, unsated with the wealth and caresses of three husbands, she finished her conquests by marrying the Earl of Shrewsbury, the richest and most powerful Peer of his time. To sum up her character, 'she was a woman of a masculine understanding and conduct; proud, furious, selfish and unfeeling.'"

He was a member of Hancock Lodge, A.F. and A.M., at Castine, ME. He was a talented painter and specialized in clipper ships and landscapes.
