"The Sabetha Republican-Herald [Sabetha, Kansas], 30 May 1907," p. 8: "Ezra J. Beeghly was born near Accident, Garrett county, Maryland July 19, 1847. He was married to Delilah Coleman March 3, 1868. To this union ten children were born, Mrs. Ada Mishler of Sabetha, Kansas, William M. Beeghly of Hill City Kansas, Mrs. Mary E. Snyder of Wisner, Nebraska, Milton J. Beeghly of Industry, Kansas, Josiah E. Beeghly of Abilene, Kansas, Mrs. Emma Marmet of Sabelha, Kansas, Harvey Beeghly of Talmage, Kansas, Miss Nellie Beeghly of Abilene, Kansas, Calvin Arthur Beeghly who died February 3, 1894 and Norman R. Beeghly of Abilene, Kansas. Besides his immediate family he leaves two brothers M. J. Beeghly of Sabetha, Kansas and J. J. Beeghly of Rosedale, North Dakota, and five sisters, Mrs. Kathryn Hostettler of Garrett county Maryland, Mrs. Abbie Sperline, Mrs. Lydia Barnes and Mrs. Rachel Root of Sabetha, Kansas and Mrs. Sarah Miller of Beattie, Kansas who deeply mourn the loss of a kind and loving husband, father and brother. The deceased lived in Cove, Garrett county Maryland until April 1, 1872 when he moved with his family to Somerset, Pennsylvania. Then he moved to Falls City, Nebraska April 5, 1876, from there he moved three miles south of Sabetha March 1, 1878. From here he moved seven miles north of Sabetha, April 5, 1881 and lived here fourteen years moving two miles north of Sabetha in 1895. Eight years later he moved to Abilene, Kansas where be resided at the time of his death. He joined the Brethren church April 1869 and remained an active worker all the remainder of his life. He was a deacon for many years, an active Sunday school worker and was superintendent for a number of years. He suffered uncomplainingly for almost a year with sciatic rheumatism and kidney disease, and fell peacefully to sleep about four o'clock Saturday, May 25, 1907. A few days before his death be asked those present to sing and when aaked If he bad any song he would like to have sung, called for 'Pass me not Oh Gentle Saviour' and be sang it through with the rest In a clear unfaltering voice."
Ezra Jay was the eldest of nine children of Josiah Beeghly and Sarah Horner.

[34162] Giles' information and ancestry is from the unverified Phillips Family Tree in Ancestry.com in 2013. A file in Ancestry.com in 2013 offers: "When William Capel died in 1515 he left the manor to his widow, Margaret. She resided there until her own death in 1522, at which time it was inherited by their son, Sir Gyles Capel (1486-1556). A good friend of Henry VIII, he was chosen to select the English Knights for jousting against the French at the Field of Cloth of Gold in June 1520.In his will Sir Giles Capel directed, that his best helmet and his arming sword should be set over his 'Funeralls' according to the device of the herald, and for nearly three hundred years the helmet hung on an iron bar over his altar shaped tomb in Rayne church. When the church was pulled down in 1840 all the Capel tombs were destroyed except the fine heraldic brass to Lady Katherine Capel, 1572.The helmet was removed by the builder, William Parmenter of Bocking. It was found with another on a peg in his workshop by a Miss Courtauld, later Madame Arendrup.She bought it and gave it to Baron de Cosson, the then greatest living authority on the history of arms and armour. It was exhibited in London and later acquired by the Metropolitan Museum of New York who sent a copy back to England.Rayne Church: the tower was built by Sir William Capel, whose arms Appear in the brickwork near the foundation, on either side of the belfry door: the old church, supposed to have been built temp. Henry II. was once famous for an altar and chapel on the south aide, erected in honour of the Blessed Virgin: of the present structure the tower is by far the most ancient part: there are memorial windows, besides several mural monuments and a large brass, with arms to the Capel family: there were interred here Sir Giles Capel kt. ob.1556. a distinguished leader at the sieges of Terrouenne and Tourney, and the battle of Spars, all in 1513, and to his wife; Sir Edward Capel kt. oh. 1577 and his daughter Grace. ob. 1587; Sir Henry Capel kt. ob. 1588 and Katherine (Manners) his wife, daughter of Thomas, 1st Earl of Rutland K.G. ; Henry Capel esq. 1615 and Thomas, son of Sir Arthur Capel, 1621: there is also a brass with arms and inscription to Lady Manners, ob. 1572. Giles married Isabel Newton, daughter of Sir Thomas Newton and Eleanor Daubeney."

(b. 02/22/62), Minnie Alice (b. 09/08/63 - married Charles Wesley Robert Morrison), Nancy E. (b. 04/25/66), William J. (b. 06/20/69), Bessie Catherine (b. 07/03/72 - married Brady J. Warner), Phoebe Anna (b. 10/07/73), Lillian M. (b. 06/05/76), and Sarah C. "Sadie" (b. 08/10/79).
A Civil War veteran, he was drafted in Perry County, and mustered into federal service August 17, 1863, as a private with Co. I, 149th Pennsylvania Infantry. Oddly, his stated age at conscription is twenty-seven. A shell fragment struck him in the right side at the battle of Laurel Hill May 10, 1864, and he did not advance with the regiment after the injury. He returned to active duty and honorably discharged with his company June 24, 1865, at Elmira, New York. He is on the company register as "Garland."
Acquaintances described him as "a big, lusty man" at enlistment and a "skeleton" just before his death at age 46-7-20. He possibly died from an infection that began in the sole of one of his feet. In 1892, Sarah lost their house and its contents to fire."

We do know that she was Peter's first wife and the mother of his first 6 children. We may have to assume that she died before he moved to Perry county."
