He was secretary/treasurer of Lurgan Township. He was a member of Orrstown Lodge 262, Free and Accepted Masons; Valley Forest 145, Tall Cedars of Lebanon; Oscar M. Hykes Post 223 American Legion and Durff-Kuhn Post 6168 Veterans of Foreign Wars, both of Shippensburg; Carlisle Rotary Club;Newburg-Hopewell Volunteer Fire Company, of which he was a charter member and past president (1973-74 and 1991-92); and Lurgan Township Lions Club, Roxbury, from which he received the Lion of the Year award for 1984-85. In addition to his wife, surviving are a son, Mark A. (husband of Charlotte) of Shippensburg; a daughter, Angela A. of St. Thomas; four grandchildren; a brother Kenneth R. of Spring Run; and a sister, Vonnie A. Hammel of Amberson."
