He was born 20 April 1894, at Mapleton, the son of Sperry Albert and Nanny Parker Brillhart. He married Marie Dutiot on 10 July 1918, at Mound City. She died 4 Nov 1968. Mr. Brillhart was a veteran of World War I and a member of the Xenia Baptist Church. He is survived by two sons Raymond D. Brillhart of 201 Caldwell and Rev. Neal D. Brillhart of San Angelo, Tx; two daughters Mrs. Lois Maxwell of Redwood, Ca. and Mrs. Donna F. Edwards of Overland Park; two sisters, Mrs. Arla Farmer of 823 Holbrook and Mrs. Dona Davis of Kansas City. There are 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. The funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Cheney's Memorial Chapel. A son and grandson of the deceased, Rev. Nel Brillhart and Rev. Terry R. Brillhart, will officiate. Burial will be in Mapleton Cemetery."

He also worked in the Callahan and Blue Hill mines. He was a member of the World Wide Church of God. Joe loved working in the woods and being with his family. He looked forward every fall to his hunting adventures with a group from Isleboro. He is survived by two sons, Joseph D. Gray and wife Andrea of Cape Rosier, David Gray of Prospect; five grandchildren, James Gray, Rebecca Gray, Emily Wascholl (and her husband, Chad), Kyle Joseph Gray and Kalen Gray, also one great grandchild, Chad Wascholl; one sister-in-law, Miriam Black of Brooksville. Joe was predeceased by his wife of 59 years, Emma (Nutter) Gray; a brother, Carlton Gray, and daughter, Vicki Jo Gray."
