"The Chapman Advertiser [Chapman, Kansas], 19 September 1918," p. 1: "Edith Marie Brillhart was born near Astoria, Ill., Sept. 2, 1891 and died at the home of her brother in law, Fred Poor in Chapman, Kansas Sept. 9, 1918 aged 24 years and 7 days. Her death was due to cancer. Her mother died when she was 12 years old leaving her with the care of the home of her father. In the year of 1910 she came to Kansas with her father and remained with "him until her marriage on Dec, 6, 1913 to Charley W. Picking. There was born to them Sept. 25, 1914, a daughter Erma Lillian, who will miss her mother's loving care. She united with the Dunkard Brethren Church. Sept. 7, 1918 she became very ill aud was bedfast until her death Sept, 9 1918. On Aug. 24, she was taken to Christs Hospital in Topeka, but as there was no improvement and it was her wish to be at home, she was brought back to Chapman Sept. 5. She was a patient sufferer telling her father a few days before her departure how kind and lovingly she had been waited on, She leaves to mourn her departure her husband, daughter, father, four brothers and two sisters who with other relatives express their hearty thanks to their friends and neighbors for their kindness and help. Interment was made in the Dunkard cemetery at Buckeye, Kansas Sept. 12, 1918."

She was born in April 9, 1901, in Austria-Hungary, living in the Mansfield area most of her life. Mrs. Ostajeski was a member of the Apostolic Christian Church. Surviving are three daughters, Katherine Crose, Mrs. John (Shirley) Cline and Mrs. Coy (Mary) David all of Mansfield; three ions, Earl, David and Kenneth Heichel all of Mansfield; 22 grandchildren; 52 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Elizabeth Costo of Mansfield. Mrs. Ostajeski was preceded in death by three sons, James, Allen and Charles. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. in the Apostolic Christian Church, 1332 Middle-Bellville Road, by the church. Burial will be in Mansfield Cemetery."
