[10540] Ernest went to Chicago, IL with his friend Harold Weed in 1938 seeking work; he met Frances there, and Harold returned to ME to marry. After his divorce from Frances, Ernest also returned to ME (1954) and married there Edith Fielding (they r. Cumberland Center, ME). Ernest may have married prior to marrying Frances - this marriage appears to have been annuled. The 6 April 1940 federal census in Ward 43 of Chicago, IL lists a Frances Peterson (age 46, b. in MN, head of houseold) with Ernest Peterson (age 31, r. in Portland, ME, clerk in a club) her "son-in-law" and the only other member of the household - was the information wrong? Find A Grave memorial 188283395 offers his obituary: "Ernest Solon Peterson, 69, husband of Edith Fielding Bean Peterson, of 180 Main St., died Monday at his home. He was born in Portland, son of Angus N and Abbie Potter Peterson. He attended Portland schools. Mr. Peterson was a member of the Masons and the OES. Besides his wife, he leaves a daughter, Mrs. Denis (Elaine) McDonough of Chicago, Ill.; a son, David Bean of Colorado Springs, Colo.; a brother, Basil R of Portland; and four grandchildren. Memorial services will be held...burial in Brooklawn Memorial Park."
