[24895] James' ancestry shown here is disputed by Clyde and Lois Hill, who offer at http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~ohjeffer/BIOS/jamesnewell.html the following: "James Newell was born in northern Ireland in about 1745. He and his brothers, Hugh, and Robert with sisters, Jane and Margaret first settled in Washington Co, Pennsylvania at Buffaloe and Short Creek. In 1878, the family crossed the river into Ohio. He purchased a claim in 1879 at the Settlement of Short Creek, now Warrenton, Warren twp, Jefferson Co. OH. His will dated Sept. 29, probated Aug. 29, 1794 states he was 'a farmer in the Settlement of Short Creek, west of Ohio.' James' wife was Margaret Sparks who preceded him in death. They had eight children; Robert who married Cassie Hardesty, John who married Rachel Mathews, Jane who married Davison McWilliams, Samuel who married a 'Miss Polk', Thomas who married Harriet Flaharty (from whom I descend), Charles (single), Margaret who married Orestus Clark 1st, John Williamson 2nd, and Mary who married Stockton Briggs. James served in some capacity in the Revolutionary War in advanced age, lived in Indian territory in both PA and OH, and fathered sons who relayed tales of many adventures flat boating down the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers, moving to other areas of the country James Newell was born in northern Ireland in about 1745. [2390] Wulfhilda was a coheiress of Magnus, last Billung duke of Saxony. http://fmg.ac/Projects/MedLands/SAXONY.htm offers: "Wulfhild ([1075]-Altdorf 29 Dec 1126). The Annalista Saxo names 'Wifhildem et Eilicam' as the two daughters of Duke Magnus & his wife, specifying that Wulfhild married 'Heinrico duci, filio Welfi ducis senioris de Bawaria'. The 'Historia Welforum' records that Wulfhild died at Altdorf 'decimo sexton die post mortem mariti' and was buried 'in monasterio sancti Martini'. The necrology of Lüneburg records the death "29 Dec" of 'Wlfhild ducissa'. The necrology of Weingarten records the death 'IV Kal Jan' of 'Wuolfhildis ducissa hic sepulta'. - m Heinrich von Bayern, son of Welf I Duke of Bavaria & his second wife Judith de Flandre ([1074]-Ravensburg 13 Dec 1126, bur Weingarten).
