"Bangor Daily Nws [Bangor, Maine], 12 July 2004" offers Margaret's oituary: "Daughter of Joseph and Margaret (Mell) Mitchell. Born and died at Indian Township. A well-known maker of fine Indian baskets, she was honored in Washington, D.C., by the National Endowment of the Arts in June 1994. Her baskets have been displayed at the Smithsonian Museum. She was predeceased by her husband, Simon A. Gabriel; two sons, Simon I. and Richard A. Gabriel; and a daughter, Sylvia Gabriel."

Shoemaker died on the 19th of Feb., 1907, at his home in this place, aged 82 years, 1 mouth and 7 days. He was a powerful man, physically, a leading farmer in his time and by diligent industry he and his family accumulated a large estate, consisting of farms, timber land and the home. By his first wife, who was Martha M. Gebhart, he leaves the following children ; Charles, Mendon, Ammon, Mrs Harry Rover, Mrs. Henry Baker, Mrs. Willis Crouse and Mrs, James Sanders. His second wife, who was a Mrs. Paul, also survives him and at this time is quite ill." Levi is son of Benjamin Shoemaker and Susannah Ludwig.
