[49009] "The Bangor Daily News [Bangor, Maine]," 11 September 1981, p. 13: "Winter Harbor - The third victim of a boating accident Saturday night was recovered from the waters off Schoodic Pointon Thursday Divers located the body of Russell Gerrish, 21, of Winter Harbor in an area known as West Pond between Big Moose Island and Pond Island. The body was recovered from water about 150 feet deep. Lt, Robert Fogg of the Maine Marine Patrol said the body was 'probably 100 to 150 yards' from where divers had recovered the bodies of Gerrishs boating companions Ralph Byers, Jr., 32, and James Gallagher, 22, both of Winter Harbor, on Sunday. The three were believed to have been fishing Saturday night in a 14-foot outboard motor boat when the accident occurred. A local fisherman found the swamped and empty boat near Pond Island on Sunday morning. The state Marine Patrol, the Coast Guard, local fishermen and community volunteers joined forces to search for the men. 'This is the type of cooperation and community effort we dont often see, Fogg noted, calling the effort 'superb'. Marine Patrol officers Kurt Soseson and George Oppenshaw transported Gerrishs body from where divers recovered it to Winter Harbor. The body was then transported to the Warren Funeral Home in Milbridge."
