He was born on June 8, 1921, in Limestone, the son of Neal and Carrie (Price) Leighton. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during World War II. He retired from the Limestone Hospital as a hospital engineer after 33 years. He was a past fire chief of the Limestone Fire Dept. James was a former member of the American Legion and was a past president of Kiwanis, and a registered Maine guide for more than 39 years. He was survived by his wife of 62 years, Rose (Engstrom) Leighton of Portage and Crystal; two children, James A. Leighton Jr. and his wife, Wanda, of Orrington, and Caroline and her husband, Mike Skinner, of Crystal; three grandchildren, CJ Leighton and his wife, Carolyn, Ashley Skinner, and Brooks Skinner and his wife, Misty; three great-grandchildren, Brooke and Parker Skinner and Samantha Floyd; two sisters, Shirley Orr of Florida, Alene Thompson of Presque Isle; one brother, Neal Leighton Jr. of Limestone." James served as a Sgt. in the U.S. Army duing World War II.

He was born April 16, 1996 in Kalamazoo, MI the beloved son of Annette 'Toni' (Kehrberg) Martin, who survives. Also surviving Uriah is his maternal grandmother, Marie Kehrberg of Augusta, MI; five aunts and uncles, Chris and Randy Carlson of Vernon Hills, IL, Cyndi and Darrell Woods of Mount Vernon, IN, Skip and Dale Kehrberg of Welland, Ontario, Canada, Marcia and John Carrier of Richland, MI, Paula Kehrberg of Paw Paw, MI; five cousins, Andrea and Dennis Dunn of Chicago, IL, Jessica Carrier of Richland, MI, Jason Carlson of Vernon Hills, IL, Celia Kehrberg of Paw Paw, MI, Amber and Chris Drake of Toronto, Canada; a great-aunt and uncle, Joan and Howard Ewles of Otsego, MI; and his father, Thomas C. J. Martin of Marcellus, MI. Uriah was predeceased by his maternal grandfather, Gil Kehrberg (September 30, 2005). He lived most of his life in Augusta, MI. Uriah was in the seventh grade class of Galesburg-Augusta Middle School where he played basketball and took great pride in serving at the Senior citizens breakfasts. Uriah was a loving and caring child who always thought of others. He came from a great loving family. He was the 'pride and joy' of his Mom's life and was a pleasure to be around. He enjoyed celebrating Renaissance Fairs with his Mom and friends. He was very creative, thoughtful and full of love. Uriah's smile could carry you through the day. Always quick with a hug and to tell you 'Love You.' He played basketball for Galesburg-Augusta; he enjoyed bowling, video games and any computer action or just spending time with his family. He is loved by all and will be missed by all - We love you Uriah, Grandpa will be by your side now and always. . . . Cremation has been held."
