He was fluent in French and German, a skilled pianist and artist, who had been elected to the Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours. In October, 1914 the German-accented Prince Louis, feeling that the criticisms of him as head of the Navy were a distraction from the war effort, resigned as First Sea Lord.

[979] Ethel is daugher of John Allen Wolbaugh (b. 1876) and May Philips; her siblings are Lena (b. 1914, m._____ Reick), Mildred (b. 1916, m. _____ Fischer) and Ralph E. (b. 1919). "News-Journal [Mansfield, Ohio], 6 February 1996," p. 12: "Ashland - Ethel C. Jewell 83, of 1272 Township Road 653, died Sunday, Feb. 4, 1996 at home after a short illness. She was born Jan. 20, 1913 in Wooster to Allem and Mae Wolbaugh. She was a homemaker and gardener. She was a member of Lakefork United Methodist Church and the church's Ladies Aid. She is survived by a daughter, Norma Conery of Ashland; three granddaughters, Linda Brinker, Lori Henthorn and Tami Norris, all of Ashland; a grandson, Scott Conery of, Ashland; 14 greatgrandchildren; and a brother, Ralph Wolbaugh of Shelby. She was preceded in death in 1993 by her husband, Melvin W. Jewell whom she married in March 1933; and three sisters. Calling hours will be today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Heyl Funeral Home, 227 Broad St., where funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. by the Rev. Don Young and the Rev. Bill Schaefer. Burial will be in Jeromesville Cemetery."
