John was a farmer at the head of Northern Bay in Penobscot, ME. He purchased the eastern part of Lots 85-86 from his father in 1808 for $1,000. The farm included 100 acres and was later divided between his daughter Sylvia Clement, is grandson Uriah Leach and his granddaughter Julia Wardwell. The farm began at Little Marsh Creek (runs into the Bay just aft of Hutchins Point, to he line just after Berzinis' Garage [1997]). He and Abigail are buried on their homestead (Leach-Wardwell Cemetery). Hosea Wardwell's diary mentions that the first bricks were made in Penobscot on John's farm in 1807 on Leach's
Point (now known as Hutchins Point). There were several brickyards in Penobscot and Castine in the 19th century.

"Shamokin News-Dispatch, 8 April 1944," p. 2: "William E. Ressler, 80. of 28 North Eighth Street, retired banker, realtor, notary public and one of Shamokin's best known men, died shortly before 4:00 this morning in Geisinger Memorial Hospital, Danville, from an acute illness with which he was stricken late last week. Mr. Ressler. who had been retired from business activities the past seven years, became seriously ill following an acute attack, and when he failed to respond to medical treatment was taken last Sunday to the hospital. For a brief interval after he received emergency treatment. Mr. Ressler showed evidence of improvement, but on Wednesday his condition became worse and his decline was rapid. The death of Mr. Ressler removes from the community a man of greatly diversified interests who enjoyed an unusually wide acquaintanceship, as well as the confidence of great numbers of persons whose confidant he was in business and personal affairs for nearly half a century. At the peak of his career as notary public and realtor, Mr. Ressler had an exceptionally large clientele, and even after his retirement continued as adviser to many persons whom he had assisted in establishing farm and other enterprises. William E. Ressler, son of Emanuel and Polly (Knorr) Ressler. was born near Leck Kill, Northumberland County, July 27, 1863. His forbears were pioneers of the Klingerstown and Leck Kill area. He spent his early life on the family farm, attending rural schools during the winter months. Mr. Ressler subsequently was graduated from Gratz Academy, later engaging for several years as a teacher in the schools of Upper Mahanoy Township. Interested in law from early boyhood, William E. Ressler came to Shamokin about 1884 and entered the law offices of the late Attorney George W. Ryon, then one of the leading lawyers in Northumberland County, with whom he remained until Attorney Ryon's death. Mr. Ressler, in 1908, established a real estate, conveyancing and insurance office on the site of the present Guarantee Trust Bank. Although learned in law through his long association with Attorney Ryon, Mr. Ressler never sought admission to the county bar. He established a highly successful business, and when the site of his former office was sold for use as a bank, the Ressler offices were transferred to the then Malick, now the Martini building, also at Independence and Eighth Streets. Following graduation from school, William E. Ressler, a son of the pioneer realtor, became associated in business with his father, and when the latter retired took over active management of the business enterprise.. With the founding here of building and loan associations, Mr. Ressler, who was an expert in that business, became a director for several such associations. He served for a number of years as a director of the Guarantee Trust Bank, later becoming a member of the board of directors of the then National Bank of Shamokin. His other activities included directorships in the Anthracite and Mutual Fire Insurance Companies of Shamokin, of which he was one of the founders, and with several local business enterprises. When he decided to retire from all business activities, Mr. Ressler resigned the numerous directorships he held for many years. A member of St. John Reformed Church, Leck Kill, from early boyhood, Mr. Ressler elected when he removed to Shamokin to retain his membership in the church of his forbears, although he was a regular attendant at church and Sunday School services in St. John Reformed Church, Shamokin, until his last illness. Mr. Ressler was married to Miss Ida S. Geist, of Leck Kill, on August 4, 1884, in St. John Reformed Church at that place. The couple would have observed the sixtieth anniversary of their marriage this year. Surviving Mr. Ressler are his widow, four children, William H. Ressler and Mrs. Fred Welker, Shamokin; Guemey M. Ressler, New York City; Mrs. Katherine E. Harris, whose husband, Benjamin Harris died only a few weeks ago, of Hartford, Conn., and 10 grandchildren. Burial will be in the family plot in Shamokin Cemetery."
The unverified IGI file states that William is son of Emanuel Ressler (b. 23 Dec 1836 in Northumberland Co., PA to Samuel Ressler and Anna Maria Kehler).
