[3069] Hugh is said to be Swedish, and to have emigrated from England to Piscataqua Harbor, NH. He was resident in Boston, MA in 1634 and was a member of the Ancient and Honorable Artillery Company there (serving in 1646). In 1673 he was disenfranchised because of adhering to the teachings of "heretic" Anne Hutchinson. He moved to Kittery (now in ME) after selling the "King's Arms Tavern" in Boston in 1651. At Kittery he ran an inn (an "ordinary"), brewhouse and a boatyard. His estate was filed in 1718 by his son-in-law, Richard Tucker. He m. (2) in 1674 Sarah Tilley. With wife Sarah, Hugh had Elihu Gunnison (b. 12 Feb 1650, d. 1718-19, r. Kittery, Sheepscot, Pemaquid and Falmouth, m. 1674 Martha Trickey and by 1690 Elizabeth Ingersoll). James Savage {A Genealogical Dictionary of The First Settlers of New England, Before 1692 - Volume #2} records him: "GUNNISON, or GULLISON, *|| HUGH, Boston 1634, on adm. at the ch. next yr. is titled "serv. to our br.
