In his youth he had an affair with Lady Alice Fitz Alan (b. ca. 1373-75, dau. of Sir Richard Fitz Alan); she m. by March 1392 Sir John Charlton, 4th Baron Charlton of Powis, who d.s.p. 19 Oct 1401. Henry's dau. by Alice, Joan (or Jane) and her husband Sir Edward Stradling, are mentioned in Henry's will dated 20 Jan 1447. Joan (or Jane) was b. prob. winter 1391-92. Sir Edward Stradling, Kgt. of St. Donat's Castle, Glamorgan, b. ca. 1389, was age 22+ 23 Nov 1411, son of Sir William of same by Isbel St. Barbe; Sir Edward went on pilgrimage to Jerusalem ca. 1407-08; he d. 1453. Both Gertrude and her mother, Itta, entered this monastery, with Gertrude succeeding her mother as abbess in 652. Gertrude resigned as abbess in 656 and spent the rest of her life studying Scripture and doing penances. She was gifted with visions.
