[19553] http://www.thepeerage.com/p6002.htm reports: "He married Mary of Luisignan, daughter of Hugh I, King of Cyprus, in 1233. He died after 1244 at Cairo, Egypt, as a captive. Walter IV, Comte de Brienne also went by the nick-name of Walter 'the Great' (?). He succeeded to the title of Comte de Brienne in 1205. He was created Count of Jaffa in 1239. He gained the title of Comte de Lecce. He gained the title of Count of Ascalon, in the Holy Land. He fought in the Battle of Gaza in 1244, where he was captured by the Mamelukes." One of their sons is Hugues, Comte de Brienne et Lecce (d. 9 Aug 1296) and the web site (loc.cit.) states "He married, firstly, Isabel de La Roche, daughter of Guy I, Duke of Athens, after 1275. He married, secondly, Helena Angelina Comnena, daughter of John Angelus, Sebastocrator of Thessaly, in 1291. He died on 9 August 1296 at Brindisi, from wounds received in action. He gained the title of Baron of Karytena, in Greece, in right of his first wife. He succeeded to the title of Comte de Brienne in 1260. In 1264 he unsuccesfully claimed, through his mother, the Regency of Jerusalem. In 1267 he had the best claim to the Crown of Cyprus, but did not press the claim. Circa 1268 he recovered Lecce after taking part, with Charles d'Anjou, in the conquest of Naples. He gained the title of Comte de Lecce circa 1268. He held the office of Regent of Athens in 1288, during wife's nephew's minority. He fought in the defence of Brindisi on 9 August 1296, on behalf of the Angevins."
