[53518] "Bangor Daily News [Bangor, Maine]," 28 August 2020: "Helen L. Raymond, 100, passed away at the Baron Center in Portland on August 25, 2020. She was a former resident of the Betsy Ross House in South Portland from 2003 to 2018 and life resident of Caribou. Helen was born October 30, 1919, the daughter, and 2nd of the five children, of Thomas and Theresa (Pierce) Snow. In October of 1942, she married Alfred 'Freddy' Raymond (deceased 1998), also of Caribou. She is survived by a sister, Pauline Doolittle of Portland; a son, Thomas Raymond of Falmouth, Maine; daughter, Donna Ellis of Milton, Delaware; and daughter, Linda Boudreau of South Portland; five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. During World War II, Helen was employed as a telephone operator in Lewiston, Maine and in Falmouth, Massachusetts. In 1946, she and 'Freddy' returned to Caribou and she raised her children prior to employment at the J.C. Penney store in Caribou, a career spanning 25 years. Helen attended Caribou schools and took great pride in having started 1st grade at age four, after following her older brother to his first day of school and refusing to leave. Consequently, she graduated from Caribou High School at age 16, in the Class of 1936. Another level of pride was her knowledge and collection of the family history as she was descended from the earliest settlers of the portion of Caribou formerly known as the Eaton Grant and particularly the area known as Grimes Mill. She was a Mayflower descendant and an active member of the Grimes Mill Cemetery Association and the Caribou Historical Society."
