[43367] http://familypedia.wikia.com/wiki/John_Lathrop_(1584-1653) offers: "Rev. John Lothropp (1584-1653) - sometimes spelled Lothrop or Lathrop - was an English Anglican clergyman, who became a Congregationalist minister and emigrant to New England. He was among the first settlers of Barnstable MA. Perhaps Lothropp's principal claim to fame is that he was a strong proponent of the idea of the Separation of Church and State (also called 'Freedom of Religion'), keeping the government out of religion and religion out of the government. This idea was considered heretical in England during his time, but eventually became the mainstream view of people in the United States of America, because of the efforts of John Lothropp and others. Lothropp left an indelible mark on the culture of New England, and through that, upon the rest of the country. He has had many notable descendents, including at least 6 US presidents, as well as many other prominent Governors, and government and business people." Find A Grave Memorial 7518784 offers extensive information about John and his family.
[55787] The unverified file K6MG-Z5J in familysearch.org offers: "When Smith Hopkins was born on 13 October 1770, in Orleans, Barnstable, Massachusetts, United States, his father, Joseph Hopkins, was 20 and his mother, Mary Higgins, was 20. He married Rebecca Higgins about 1789. They were the parents of at least 6 sons and 7 daughters. He lived in Bar Harbor, Hancock, Maine, United States for about 10 years. He died on 19 January 1861, in Frankfort, Waldo, Maine, United States, at the age of 90, and was buried in Bar Harbor, Hancock, Maine, United States."
[42311] This person is from the unverified Roberts Family Tree in Ancestry.com in 2017. Find A Grave Memorial 111327329 offers: "Mary Huggins, the 5th of nine children of John and Mary [née Carruth] Huggins, was born in Ballymartin Parish, Antrim County, Ireland in 1722. Her family were Scotch Presbyterians; who came to America aboard the 'Deligance of Glasgow' which landed in Philadelphia between 30 January 1729 and 22 September 1729. They were joined by her mother's brothers, Adam, Alexander and Walter Carruth. After living in the Lancaster County, Pennsylvania area for a number years, Mary's family emigrated south and settled first in Rowan County, North Carolina. Here Mary met and married John Robert Sloan; with whom she had ten known children. Mary and John Sloan later moved to the headwaters of Coddle Creek in Iredell County, North Carolina to raise their family and John was made Constable of the county. Mary and John Robert Sloan were in the first congregation at her brother's home, when Rev. Hugh McAden preached his first sermon to what he call the 'Coddle Creek congregation' in 1752. This early congregation later became charter members of Coddle Creek A.R.P. church. Mary Huggins Sloan departed this life on the 13th day of March 1787 at the age of 65 years old. She was laid to rest in the churchyard cemetery at Coddle Creek A.R.P. where she had worshiped for over 35 years."
