The primary source which confirms his parentage has not yet been identified. He succeeded his father in 1037 as Pons Comte de Toulouse.

Pérez de Urbel suggests that the name 'Majorie' is similar to 'Mayor' which may indicate a connection with Castile or Navarre. He proposes that she was Mayor Sánchez de Navarra, daughter of Sancho III King of Navarre & his wife Munidomna Mayor de Castilla . If this is correct, Mayor would have been a child at the time of her marriage if this did indeed take place in [1022]. Although this origin is not impossible, it does seem unlikely that such a prominent origin of the wife of Comte Pons should not have been recorded in contemporary sources. Some corroboration concerning Mayor's parentage is found in the 1074 list of kings of Pamplona, written by a monk at Leira, which ascribes two daughters Mayor and Jimena to King Sancho.

'Poncius Tolosanæ urbis comes' named 'Adalmodis uxoris mee' in his donation to Cluny dated 29 Jun 1053. She married thirdly (1053 after 29 Jun) Ramón Berenguer 'el Viejo' Conde de Barcelona. She was murdered by her stepson Pedro Ramón de Barcelona."
