[1558] http://home.wxs.nl/~voort359/home3vlaan.html remarks: "Boudewijn, who was supported by the Bishop of Liège, succeeded his brother Arnulf III as Count in Hainaut, but had to cede Flanders to his uncle Robrecht, the victor of the battle of Kassel. Boudewijn tried a few times to reconquer Flanders, but did not succeed, and therefore never effectively became Count Boudewijn VII of Flanders. He was murdered in 1098 while taking part in the first Crusade." Cf. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baldwin_II,_Count_of_Hainaut.

The father shown here is not proven. Oliver Cromwell Pratt may be son of the earlier Oliver who m. Sarah Willard, or someone else.
DAR Patriot Index, 1966, p. 546 states he served in War for Independence as a Private from MA. LDS Church's IGI file gives his birth 17 Jan 1763. "Revolutionary War Graves Register," (Louisville: NSSAR, 1993), p. 494 shows an Oliver Pratt (1761-1844) of Ashtabula co., OH [probably wrong]. The direct tax returns in 1798 record Oliver at Livermore, ME with a house valued $40 (one of the highest valuations on the list) and 100 acres with a total valuation (house and land) of $ 420. His grave marker can be seen at http://homepage.mac.com/jnwelty/revsoldiers.html.
Janet Sweet Nicholls
NOTE: "New England Families," William Richard Cutter (Clearfield Co.), Vol. 4, pp. 2023-2024, which reports that an Oliver, son of Oliver Pratt and Sarah Willard, was in Boston, MA in 1740.
http://www.odenkirk.com offers is 2008: "We note on the family group page that this Oliver's middle name was Cromwell. I can find no legal document that would substantiate this name and must conclude that the middle name was added by some researcher who was trying to establish a connection to the Pratts who lived in Ireland and were very sympathetic to the aid Oliver Cromwell gave to the Irish in their attempted break with England.
"The land records of Lincoln Co., ME show that the Pratts in the area were too numerous to record. During the period 1790 to 1814, we show the following Pratts involved in land transfers: Seth, Ebenezer, John, Micah, Elam, Oliver(1811), Daniel, Nathaniel, Aaron, Calvin, James, Elisher, Phineas, Charles, Henry. Some of these were descendants of Phinehas and some were of Matthew. In other words, two distinct Pratt families are represented. ("American Ancestry, by Munsell, Vol. IV, p. 229)
"After their marriage, Oliver Pratt and Jedidah Luce settled in Maine. Andrew, their son, was born there. They moved next to Albany, N.Y. and came to Ohio in 1814, settling in Trumbull County. In 1815 they came on to Wayne County and remained there.
"Just where the family was located between 1815 and 1824 is unknown. In 1824 Oliver purchased land from Benjamin Thompson. In 1826 he was paying taxes on the property that was officially deeded to him in 1832. Maybe it took that long for the paper work to be accomplished. The exact location of the property in layman's terms is: the property was bisected in two directions by what is now the Lincoln Highway or Rt. 30. It was divided in a SW to NE direction by the no defunct Mt. Vernon and Columbus Railway. The Village of E. Union was just east of this property and in those days was known as 'Cross Keys.'
"Oliver had the distinction of owning and operating the first distillery in Wayne County. Early maps of the area show 2 or 3 taverns within a couple miles of the distiller, so one can only assume that Oliver was the supplier of the spirits in these taverns. In those days apparently the stigma was not attached to owning a distillery as would exist today. Oliver was noted in the records as a 'prominent member of the local Baptist Church'. In the book on THE HISTORY OF WAYNE COUNTY, it was noted that the distillery described by Douglas was located by a very strong spring. (South of Cross Keys at a spring, a Mr. Pratt had the first distillery) In mid 1975 the writer interviewed the current residents of the property and established that a spring had existed in the pasture field and had just gone dry the previous year.
"Incidentally, on page 79 of the Atlas of Wayne County published in 1873, we find a pictorial rendition of the house and barn as it existed when Andrew Milbourn owned the property purchased after Oliver died. In 1975 the buildings looked very much like they had a hundred years earlier.
"Oliver purchased land from the State of Ohio in 1832. Portions of that deed are as follows:
"Duncan McArthur, governor of the State of Ohio ........... know ye that in consideration of the sum of three hundred forty eight dollars and forty cents paid by Oliver Pratt .........for the purchase of the tract of land ......... appropriated for the use of schools within the Virginia Military District ......... in pursuance of an act to provide for the sale of lands granted by Congress for the use of schools within the Virginia Military District ........... unto the said Oliver Pratt and to his heirs assigns forever the North West quarter of Section number Ten Township number sixteen of Range number twelve containing one hundred and sixty acres to be the same more or less. Signed by the Governor at Columbus, Ohio this 20 Day of November in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirty two.
"Received for record, March 6th 1833, and recorded March 7, 1833, L. Cox, Recorder.
"Wayne County Land records show that Oliver Pratt had purchased land from Benjamin Thompson in 1824 in Range 13, Twp. 15, Sec. 4. 1 Lot. (vol. 8, p. 604.
"Oliver Pratt was a teacher, distiller, and engaged in the raising of silk worms. He was a Baptist.
"Probate Court, for Wayne County, East Union Twp., File p.22. The will was probated 15 March 1845, Luther M. Pratt, Administrator. The settlement included considerable debts owed to Oliver Pratt, including Whiskey. (This substantiates that Oliver the original distiller in the Township was Oliver.) Included in the debtors were John Ames, Ira Pratt and Luther M. Pratt. A property sale was held 19 Apr. 1845 and included several articles bought by members of the family.
Among the heirs to the estate were Josiah Milbourn and Joseph Pratt as well as several relatives in Lincoln County, Maine.[leyda.FTW]"
See the discussion of the identity of his parents at http://www.odenkirk.com where he is posited as son of Oliver Pratt (b. ca. 1740, d. ca. 1762) and wife Sybel or Sybela, and grandson of Oliver Pratt and Sarah Willard! Note also that the Town of Livermore, ME records show Oliver Pratt and wife Sally (who d. 12 Nov 1791 at age 27) had Oliver (b. 29 Sept 1789) and Sally L. (b. 26 Oct 1791). The Livermore records show immediately below this family "Sibble Pratt the child of Oliver Pratt and Jedidah his wife, born 24 July 1795" - this appears to indicate a second marriage of Oliver. The 1798 Direct Tax list for Livermore show Oliver Pratt with a house valued at $40 and 100 acres for a total valuation of $420. Oliver is the only Pratt head of household in the 1815 census of the East Union District, Wayne Co., OH.
Perhaps lending credence to the proposal that Oliver was in New York State before moving to Ohio is the will of Oliver Colven, probated in 1803, of Kingsbury, NY (perhaps 50 miles north of Albany) in which "Oliver C. Pratt" (grandson) is left $50 along with other Pratt grandsons, Benjamin C., Able and Nathan. But this may indicate that the "C." is Colven, not Cromwell.
"Huntington, Indiana History and Families, 1834-1993" (Paducah, KY: Turner Pub., 1993), p. 341states that Oliver Pratt who m. Jedidah Luce was an original settler of Wayne Co., OH and continues with his son, Joseph.
After finding Jedidah and Oliver in the published First Baptist Church records in Livermore, ME, and seeing that they experienced considerable tension in the community and that he asked for a dismissal from the congregation, researcher Jennifer Osterberger
Oliver's marriage in Turner, ME brings up the possibility that he is related to the Pratts in that hamlet at the time of his marriage - see "The Ancestors and Descendants of Elisah Pratt of Turner, Maine," Francis H. Russell (typescript, 1963, in the Library of Congress).
Perhaps a clue to further family is this www.rootsweb.ancestry.com query in 1996: "PRATT, TITUS, LUCE; Oliver PRATT (Oliver - Jedidah LUCE) b ca 1793 Pittson, Kennebec Co., ME; d 27 May 1825 Union, Lincoln Co., ME; m 4 Sep 1813 to Joanna Gilmore TITUS Ch: Oliver m 25 Oct 1845 to Susan M. The main source is probably the one in Derbyshire, recorded in Domesday Book as Scelhadun, formed by the addition of the Old English distinguishing term scylf 'shelf' to the place name Haddon (from Old English h?ð 'heath(er)' + dun 'hill'). There are also places called Sheldon in Devon (from Old English scylf 'shelf' + denu 'valley') and Birmingham (from Old English scylf + dun 'hill')."
