[3097] August is son of Ludwig (name changes to Louis after emigrating) Harig (b. 4 Feb 1849, d. 4 Dec 1934, bur. at Massillon, OH, fought in Prussian War and then came to U.S.A. at age 21; had 9 sons and 4 daus.) and wife Caroline Schmidt (b. 21 Dec 1857, d. 3 March 1949 in Akron, OH, came to U.S.A. at age 9). See his obituary in The Akron Beacon Journal 6 June 1983. August's draft registration at age 54 in 1942 states he is employed by the Schaefer-Wilson Co. and r. 35 Byers Ave., Akron, OH. The 1900 federal census lists him in his father's family in Tuscarawas Twp., Stark Co., OH. August's brother Jacob (1878-1962) is buried in the Massillon City Cemetery in Stark Co., OH as are his parents.

[Note: Chaiwily, Wiltshire, England has not been located.] Harmer Family Tree at geocities.ws/roudebush_english/Harmer.html offers: "William & George Harmer were brothers who left England for Pennsylvania after June 5, 1682. William (born ca. 1660-1731/32, Chalwily, Wiltshire, England) was the elder of the two and was a tailor by occupation. His certificate of removal bears the previously cited date and was granted by the Purton Friends Monthly Meeting in Wiltshire, England. After his arrival in Pennsylvania, William joined the Abington Meeting but did not maintain active membership. He returned to his native England where he married sometime after September 7, 1685, Ruth Skeat (born in Chalwily, Wiltshire, England, daughter of John Skeat) at Foxham, Wiltshire. He and his bride returned to Pennsylvania. William Harmer requested reinstatement at the Abington Meeting on September 30, 1706. In 1720/21 he and Ruth and two sons removed to the Gwynedd Monthly Meeting. He died Nov. 26, 1731, in Upper Dublin Twp., Philadelphia, PA, and is buried at the Friends Burial Ground at Philadelphia. Ruth (Skeat) Harmer died Dec. 25, 1748 and is buried at the same location. William's will mentions 8 children but only Ruth and John by name. Other children of this couple have been identified as Elizabeth who married Joseph Townsend, Jane who married John Bradfield and William who married Eleanor Richardson. . . . Jane Harmer was born about 1689-1690, the daughter of William Harmer and Ruth Skeat. She married John Bradfield (born about 1690, Bucks Co., PA) on July 29, 1712, in Abington MM, Jenkintown, Montgomery Co., PA (Springfield, PA). Their children were: Ruth Bradfield b: ABT 1713 in Bucks Co. PA; John, Jr. Bradfield b: ABT 1714 in [abt 1720] Buckingham, Bucks Co., PA; William Bradfield b: ABT 1715 in abt 1720- Bucks Co., PA; Elizabeth Bradfield b: ABT 1720; Joseph Bradfield b: 1725 in Bucks Co, PA."

[7773] The Perry County Democrat, 24 January 1940, p. 3: From the Lewistown Sentinel - Benjamin F. Rickard, owner of the saddler shop of 25 Valley Street for the past 30 years, passed away at Lewistown Hospital Sunday after noon, January 13, at 2.45 o'clock, aged 81 years, 5 months and 22 days. Mr. Rickard, whose residence was at 307 Valley street, fell while crossing the street in front of his shop on Thursday noon, the result of a slight stroke. Assisted to his home, he grew steadily worse and was taken to the hospital on Friday. Mr. Rickard was born at Loysville, Perry county, and as a boy learned the trade in his fathers saddler shop. He was united in marriage with Miss Anna Katherine Hench, also of Loysville. They came to reside at Reedsville where Mr. Rickard was manager of the James H. Mann Company store. In 1894 they removed to Lewistown. Thirty years ago Mr. Rickard purchased the saddler shop of Thomas J. Novinger and conducted the business on Valley street until he was stricken on Thursday noon. He was a familiar figure on Valley street as he went to and from his shop, never missing a day, for he had not been ill in the past 40 years. Mr. Rickard is survived by his wife. who is now seriously ill at the home of her son, also by one son and a daughter, George H. Rickard, Prothonotary of Mifflin county, 226 Logan street, and Mrs. Marian Jones, of Philadelphia. Two grandchildren are living. One brother and two sisters also survive Mr. Rickard: James C. Rickard, of Blain, Perry county: Mrs. Frank Lightner and Mrs. Annie Showvaker, both of Harrisburg. He was a member of St. Johns Lutheran church. Due to the illness of Mrs. Rickard the funeral services will be private. . . Interment will be in St. Marks cemetery.
