[6188] Robert was a Magna Charta Surety, leader of the barons and their army, third lord of Dunmow Castle. In 1218, although a prisoner of the crown, he was allowed to join a Crusade, taking part in the famed siege of Damietta. He is buried before the high altar of Dunmow Priory. His second wife, Rohese, survived him. He and Gunora had a daughter, Matilda the Fair, called "Maid Marion," said to have been poisoned by King John. See "Magna Carta Ancestry," Douglas Richardson (Baltimore: Genealogical Publishing Co., 2005), p. 344. Cf. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Fitzwalter.
