He was born in North Brooksville, Jan. 8, 1911, the son of John and Lela (Snow) Howard. Howard was a member of the Orland Masonic Lodge, the Hancock Royal Arch Chapter in Bucksport, St. Johns Commandery in Bangor, and the Pulp and Sulphite Union in Bucksport. He had worked for St. Regis for 34 years. Surviving are his wife, Virginia of Orland; three sisters, Mrs. Phyllis Williamson of Brooksville, Mrs. Laura Ferguson of Centerdale, R. I. and Mrs. Mavis Douglas of Sedgwick; three brothers, Gordon of Lincoln, R. I., Raymond of New Vineyard and Donald of Brooksville; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held in the Mitchell-Tweedie Funeral Home in Bucksport Thursday at 2 p.m, with the Rev. Roy Pike officiating. Burial will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery, with masonic committal services." Manley is son of John Patrick Howard (1888-1956) & Lela C. "The Akron Beacon Journal [Akron, Ohio], 9 March 1998," p. 16: "Tallmadge - Robert D. James, 79, died March 7, 1998. Mr. James retired in 1980 as a tool and die maker with the Akron Tool & Die Co. He was bom in Akron and lived in Tallmadge since 1958. He was a member of the First Congregational Church of Tallmadge, and was an Army Air Corps veteran, serving in the CBI Theater from 1943 to 1946. Mr. James spent many happy hours in his workshop after his retirement, and enjoyed the recreation of square dancing for 36 years with the Silvertown Square Dance Club. He is survived by his wife, Doris L.; daughter and son-in-law, Sheila and Allen Burris of Richmond, Va.; son and daughter-in-law, Donald and Mineko James of Brimfield; grandchildren, Jessica and Elliott Burris."
