Funk, Master Mechanic of N. C. R. W., shops at Marysville, Perry County, was an old citizen of Port Royal. She was born in Turbett Township in the year 1800, and at the time of her demise was in the 84th year of her age. She was a daughter of Samuel McFadden, and her mother's maiden name was Bell. The deceased was married to Samuel Rice, son of John Rice. They lived in Mexico, this county, for some years, where her husband kept store. In 1835, Mr. R. died leaving a wife and one daughter, Sarah. Mrs. R. then returned to Port Royal. Her daughter married John Adams, and died in 1865. Mrs. R. married Emanuel Wise, of Mifflintown. He lived only a few years after their marriage, Mrs. Wise again returned to Port Royal where she resided until becoming quite feeble through infirmities incident to old age when she went to Marysville and was kindly cared for by her sister and husband until the turmoils of life with her were ended. The remains of the deceased were brought to Port Royal at noon on Friday and interred in Church Hill Cemetery. She leaves two sisters, Mrs. Jane Funk, of Marysville and Mrs. Mary Rice of Landisburg, Perry County, and a large circle of relatives and friends.
