[19382] Alfonso XI married his first cousin, Maria of Portugal. He had a son with an unknown mistress, Henry ("Enrique II") of Trastamara who reigned 1369-1379. Alfonso XI joined Alfonso IV of Portugal to crush the resurgent Moors in Spain in the Battle of the Salado River, 30 October 1340. While besieging Gibraltar, Alfonso XI of Castile died of the black death. (Alfonso XI was only two years old when his father died, and the succession was disputed by an uncle, a grand-uncle and a third cousin of the infant heir - the pretenders established centers of authority in Leon, Toledo and Seville.)
