A member of the Staples Class of the First Universalist Church, she graduated from the Waterville schools, but had been a resident of Bangor for the past 61 years. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Charlene Custer of Orland Park, Ill., Mrs. Marjory Perkins of Bangor and Mrs. Evelyn Greene of Hampden Highlands; five grandchildren and one nephew." Bertha is daughter of Charles Edgar Green (1857-1936) & Idella Weaver (1863-1901; m. 27 December 1878 in Kings Co., Nova Scotia, Canada).

He was a lifelong farmer, succeeding his father in the ownership of the homestead; his dwelling was near Greenbrier. He married Magdalena Erdman, born June 7, 1783, died Oct. 31, 1861, and both were Lutheran members of Himmel's Church, where they are buried. They had a family of thirteen children: Jacob, Joh A., Joseph, Jonathan, George, Samuel, Peter, Andrew, Heinrich, David, Sallie (married Jacob Hoff), Kate (married Jacob Hetrich) and Lydia (married a Moritz)."
