[45880] "The Morning New Bernian [New Bern, NC], 4 January 1917," p.6: "Mr. Charles E. Whitcomb, after a long period of illness died at his home on Guion street, yesterday afternoon. Mr. Whitcomb was in his sixty-fourth year of age and one of New Bern's respected citizens. For many years he conducted a mercantile business on Guion street and was known to be an honest and industrious citizen, and enjoyed the confidence and friendship of a great number of people. The funeral services will be conducted this afternoon at three o' clock, at the residence, by Rev. Euolid McWhorter, and interment will take place at the Cedar Grove cemetery. Among those who survive to mourn the death of Mr. Whitcomb are his wife, Mrs. Charles E. Whitcomb, and two sons, Mr. James R., of this city and C. B., of Detroit, Michigan; and three brothers, Messrs. W. A., and Frank, of Umatilla, Fla., and S., of Dayton, Ohio."
