Mr. Dobbs was a successful farmer until advancing years and feeble health compelled him to relinquish that following. He was frequently elected to township offlices and as Justice of the Peace made an enviable reputation for his sound judgment in settling disputes. Such was the confidence in his judgment by his fellow citizens that for twenty years he served as assessor of his township, 'Squire Dobbs' was respected by all who knew him and stood high in the community in which he so long lived. Funeral services were held from his late residence Sunday afternoon with interment in the Buffalo graveyard. Rev. A. C. Forscht, of the Ickesburg Lutheran church, officiating."

Scottish and Irish: reduced Anglicized form of Gaelic Mac Eoghain 'son of Eoghan' (see McEwen)." - Source: Dictionary of American Family Names ©2013, Oxford University Press.
