[41601] "Elizabethville Echo [Elizabethville, PA], 18 April 1929," p. 1: "Mr. Isaiah T. Buffington, one of this town's most prominent residents, passed away at his home early Friday evening at the age of 78 years, 8 months and 22 days, after suffering a heart attack. Mr. Buffington had been in fair health during the past winter and on Thursday had supervised work in his small orchard east of town. Exertion is believed to have brought on a heart attack later that day. He succumbed to the second attack the following evening. Mr. Buffington had been a resident of this community for about sixty years. He was born in Upper Paxton Township a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Josiah Buffington and when quite young his parents removed to Mifflin Township and later to Washington Township, where Mr. Buffington received his early education. Mr. Buffington's father was a cabinet maker and undertaker. At the age of ten years Mr. Buffington went out among neighbors to work on the farm, which work he pursued for about five years after which he took up cabinet making, carpentering and house contracting work. Mr. Buffington entered business for himself in 1876 as an undertaker, cabinet maker and contractor and he continued in this manner until 1888. Mr. Buffington started his business in a very small room and made additions as his business increased. Mr. Buffington entered into a partnership with C. W. Enders in 1888 when they formed the firm of Buffington and Enders and established the planing mill where they not only furnished lumber for home and industrial building purposes but manufactured furniture also. This partnership was dissolved after many years when Mr. Buffington became the sole owner of the planing mill. After conducting this business very successfully Mr. Buffington sold the plant to the present owners, the Williams Valley Lumber and Construction Company and retired from active business. During his life time Mr. Buffington had been identified with many civic activities. As a resident of Washington Township he served at one time on the Board of School Directors. He became the first Chief Burgess of Elizabethville upon its change to borough government. He had also been President of the Enterprise Hosiery Mill and was present when the Maple Grove Cemetery Association was organized. He served in the capacity of President from its organization to the time of his death. Mr. Buffington became a director of the First National Bank of town when it was chartered in 1900. He succeeded John A. Komberger as President of the Board of Directors upon the former's death in 1916, and Mr. Buffington served in this capacity until his death; his son Lewis being the cashier of the same institution. Mr. Buffington was a member of Trinity United Brethren Church and for many years had been Superintendent of the Sunday School, and was President of the Church Board of Trustees for many years. He was also affiliated with Syrian Lodge of Odd Fellows, town. He was united in marriage to Miss Mary Kemmerer September 1, 1872, who with the four sons and one daughter survive: William E., Washington, D. C; Ray K., George F. and Lewis C. Buffington of this place and Miss Nellie Buffington, at home. Three sisters and one brother; Mrs. Mary Tschopp, Elizabethville; Mrs. Charles B. Potter, Mifflin, Pa, and Miss Kate Buffington of Elizabethville and B. Franklin Buffington of town; and five grandchildren also survive. Funeral services were held from the residence Tuesday afternoon at two o'clock. Rev. John A. Keiper, pastor of the United Brethren Church of Tower City and Rev. I. W. Funk, pastor of Trinity United Brethren Church officiated. Interment was made on the family plot in Maple Grove Cemetery. . . "

[2960] Find A Grave memorial 86017908 offers: "Oliver Ingham (or De Ingham, d'Ingham) was an English commander and administrator in Aquitaine during the War of Saint-Sardos and early Hundred Years War. He became Sheriff of Cheshire. Oliver was jailed at Winchester for his involvement in the civil wars of Edward II of England, but was released in 1324 to serve under Edmund of Woodstock, 1st Earl of Kent in the Duchy of Aquitaine during the short War of Saint-Sardos against France. In 1326 Oliver was appointed Seneschal of Gascony, the highest post in what remained in English possession. He managed to raise an army of mercenaries and capture a number of strongholds in Agenais and Saintonge. However the political climate at home had changed. Edward II had been deposed and replaced by his son Edward III under the regency of Queen Isabella and Roger Mortimer. The regents wanted peace and in the final treaty the loss of Agenais was accepted and Ingham's conquests abandoned. To appease the French Oliver was at first recalled to England, but was reappointed Seneschal of Gascony in June 1331. He still held this office in 1337 when the Hundred Years War broke out and he was tasked with defending Gascony from French invasion. The defences of the duchy had been undermined with the loss of several key castles in the previous war and the loyalty of the local nobility was divided as many owned estates on both sides of the border. English strategy in the early years centred on invading Northern France; Oliver received neither troops nor funds from England, but had to relay entirely on local resources. The income of the duchy depended mainly on tolls and customs on the river trade, this dried up almost entirely with the onset of war. Most of what revenue remained had to be expended on paying garrison commanders. As a result Oliver's government at Bordeaux had very limited options in how to conduct the defence. Oliver married Elizabeth Zouche, born 1282 in Ellesmere, Shropshire.
