[22357] His ancestry is NOT PROVEN - see "John Irish, His Life and Ancestors, 1066-1677," George E. Irish (Baltimore: The Gateway Press, 1991). Also see "The Great Migration Begins: Immigrants to New England 1620-1633, Vol. 2," Robert Charles Anderson (Boston: New England Historic Genealogical Society, 1995), pp. 1065-1068. John arrived at Plymouth, MA with John Bradford, son of Governor William Bradford, in 1629. He left much property in Seaconnet, Rhode Island. He was a volunteer in the Pequot War of 1633-1637. About 1640 he m. Elizabeth Risley (d. 28 Aug 1687 in Duxbury). They have many descendants - see "John Irish the Immigrant, 1629 - 1963, and Allied Families" on the Web in 2003 at http://lthome.com/john-irish/welcome.htm - also see NEGHR 113:297 and http://lthome.com/john-irish/text/000/page013.htm. "On Wings of Love: Possible Ancestors of John Irish, the Immigrant" is on the Web at http://members.tripod.com/~FamilyAlbum/IrishEarlyPossibilities.html and is worth considering. http://freepages.family.rootsweb.com/~lisadow/aqwg39.htm offers a descent from John. See also "Plymouth Colony: Its History and People, 1620-1691), Eugene Aubrey Stratton (Ancestry Publishing, Provo, UT, 1986), pp. 313-14. Cf. NEHGR 94:241 which lists a John Irish as an original proprietor of Bridgewater, MA.
