"Ellsworth American [Ellsworth, Maine]," 16 February 2023: "Donald H.E. Carter, a lifetime resident of Hancock County, passed away at the age of 88 on Feb. 12, 2023, in Bucksport. Donald was born in Blue Hill at the Memorial Hospital on June 12, 1934. He grew up on Cunningham Ridge Road in Surry until he went into the United States Air Force, after high school, serving for six years. He met his lovely wife, Wanda, while stationed in Shreveport, La., and they married March 29, 1957. They moved around some the first few years but spent much of their 66 years of marriage in Surry, in the same house he grew up in. They had six children and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Don worked for Western Union for 30 years. After retiring from there, he used his entrepreneurial spirit and started his own company, Competitive Communications, and ran that for 15 years, until really retiring! Don loved the great outdoors; he was an avid sportsman with hunting and fishing. He also loved cutting wood with his father. He loved teaching his son, George, and many grandchildren, as well as nieces and nephews, how to brook fish, hunt and other outdoor activities. He also knew how to tell a good story and crack a good joke (the corny ones were best). You would often find him singing. Dad loved to sing. Don was a loyal and dedicated family man who set such a great example serving others and meeting their needs. Don is survived by his wife, Wanda (Cobb) Carter; sister, Geraldine Carter; son, George D. Carter, and his children, Melissa Carter, Zachary Carter and Nicholas Carter; daughters, Dolores (Carter), her spouse, Duncan Sullivan, and her children, Erin Bourque, Lindsay Roarty, Hillary Becker and Lauren Cotter; Shizele Carter, her significant other, Montelle Sargent, and her children, Rachel Dragon, Jennifer Simpson and Solomon Dragon; Juanita Carter-Egan, her spouse, John Egan, and daughter Hali Egan; Mariliyn (Carter), her spouse, Lenny Lawson, and their children, Morgan Lawson and Cameron Lawson; Maria Carter, her significant other, Joe Carr, and her children, Natasha Robbins, Amanda Robbins and Derrick Robbins (deceased). Don and Wanda have many bonus grandchildren, in addition to those listed above, 24 great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. He also leaves behind nieces and nephews who loved him very much."
Donald was predeceased by his parents, George D. Carter and Bernice (Taylor) Carter; sister, Corinne Carter; and grandson, Derrick Robbins.

[43041] A posting in 2000 on rootsweb.com by pgarza3@juno.com offers without documentation: "According to family tales, Charles K. Paullin, the eldest child of Zedekiah and Mary Ann disapeared while living in Colorado Springs. he was accused of stealing money which may have given him the impetus to flee. My great-grandmother spent untold sums of money and energy trying to find her son but never succeeded. Years later my mother was visiting a family in Scioto Co., Ohio where she was introduced to a Mr. Paullin. She had not seen her Uncle George since she was a tiny tot. Nothing was said, the man just sort of nodded curtly and left. Later she was telling my grandfather about the encounter and described the man. Grandpa was convinced it was Charlie. Efforts to find him failed as the Mr. Paullin, who was neighbor to the family my parents, knew had moved away. I have always wondered about Charles. Did he ever marry and have children? where did he go?" Charles K. Paullins, b. in OH 3 June 1872, d. 16 December 1940 in Humboldt Co., CA - "California Death Index, 1940-1997," database, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:VPVY-MTL : 26 November 2014), Charles K Paullins, 16 Dec 1940; Department of Public Health Services, Sacramento. The 22 April 1910 federal census in Denver, CO lists Charles' family and reports he is secretary in a fraternal order and a widower; his brother-in-law, Robert Jay Peer (age 29, bookkeeper in a fraternal order) and sister Nellie Blye Peer (age 20) are in the household.
