[32512] "Gospel Herald - Vol. XXXVIII, No . 42 (18 January 1946)", pp. 814--815: "Metzler Mary, daughter of Jacob and Margaret Hershey, was born Sept. 21, 1853; died Oct. 19, 1945; aged 92 y. 28 d. In 1873 she was married to Christian Metzler, who preceded her in death in 1921. To this union seven sons and four daughters were born: Aaron and Harry E., Paradise, Pa.; Lena Mrs. Harry W. Reeser, Gap, Pa.; Sue J. Mrs. Jeremiah Moore and Annie Mrs. Christian W. Houck, of Paradise; Christian, Ephrata, Pa.; Mary Mrs. Ross Leaman, Ronks, Pa.; Abram, Lima, Ohio; Omar, Bird-in-Hand, Pa.; Isaac J., Manheim, Pa.; and Jacob,. who died in infancy. She is also survived by 55 grandchildren, 87 great-grandchildren, and one sister (Susan Rohrer, of Paradise). She was blessed with good health and a clear mind until the last two weeks of her life. Each day she became weaker and many times expressed her desire to go home. Funeral services were held Oct. 22 at Hershey's Mennonite Church, of which she was a faithful member for over sixty-five years, in charge of Amos Weaver and Martin R. Hershey. Interment was made in the adjoining cemetery."

[11290] She was active in French politics during the reign of her son, Louis XIII. In 1600 she became the second wife of Henry IV. They had six children, the eldest of whom became king as Louis XIII when his father was assassinated in 1610. As regent during her son's minority, Marie was dominated by her Italian advisers and, unlike her husband, followed a pro-Spanish policy; she arranged to marry both Louis and his sister Elizabeth into the Spanish royal family. At home, she proved unable to control the turbulent French nobles. She was excluded from power by her son in 1617, but was readmitted to the royal council five years later. Marie promoted the advancement of Armand Du Plessis de Richelieu, using her influence to have him made a cardinal in 1622 and Louis's prime minister in 1624. When Richelieu reversed her policy of alliance with Spain, she turned against him. After failing in a plot to remove him in 1630, she went into permanent exile. Marie de Médicis was a patron of the Flemish painter Peter Paul Rubens, who illustrated her life in a brilliant series of 21 paintings (1622-24). [40616] Shadrack was one of the first three settleers of Sedgwick, Hancock Co., ME, arriving in the spring of 1763. An unverified Watson Family Tree in Ancestry.com in 2016 offers: "When Shadrack Watson was born on February 3, 1712, in Essex, Massachusetts, his father, John, was 40 and his mother, Ruth, was 38. He married Susanna Kimball on August 16, 1733, in Wells, Maine. They had four children in 14 years. He died in 1765 in Wells, Maine, at the age of 53. . . . Susanna Kimball was born on March 4, 1711, in Wells, Maine . . . . She died in 1790 in Wells, Maine, having lived a long life of 79 years."
