[56489] Helen's obituary: "Helen A. Leach, 96, wife of the late Merrill H. Leach Sr., passed away Dec. 30, 2001, at a Bangor hospital. She was the daughter of Henry A. and Annie (Wardwell) Davis from Penobscot. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Blue Hill and also was a lifelong member and past worthy matron of Blue Hill Chapter No. 182 of the Order of Eastern Star. She is survived by two sons, Dana Giles and his wife, Betty, and Merrill H. Leach Jr. and his wife, Gail; 11 grandchildren, Glenn Giles and his wife, Gloria, Ann (Leach) Spear and her husband, Joe, Patricia (Leach) Grant and her husband, Tim, Craig Giles, Gary Giles, William Leach and his wife, Patty, Jeffrey Giles and his wife, Kerry Hawkins, Curt Giles and his wife, Sheila, Sarah (Leach) Brooks and her husband, Bliss, Sharon (Giles) Bernier and her husband, Bill, and Jonathan Leach. Beth Gray and her husband, Doug, and Sheila Worden; 11 great-grandchildren, Rob, Craig, Dana Gregory, David, Jamie, Lee, Kim, Rebecca, Kristy and Jodi; Kayla and Derek; three great-great-grandchildren, Brandi, Madison and Gloria. She will also be remembered by a very special niece, Hilda O'Neil, and very special friends. In addition to her husband, Merrill Sr., she was predeceased by one sister, Hazel Carley, and one brother, Lester Davis."

[50838] "The Ellsworth American [Ellsworth, Maine], 13 November 2012": "Winslow Albert Sewall, dedicated and loving husband, father and grandfather, passed away peacefully Sunday, Nov. 4, 2012, surrounded by his loving family. He was born Aug. 2, 1928, on Little Deer Isle, to Myra Estelle (Haskell) and George Washington Sewall. He attended and graduated from the island schools. He left the island at a young age to work on various sea vessels. He spent the longest time on the last one, the Showan out of Greenwich, Conn., as captain. Winnie also served our country in the military. He was in the U.S. Army and served in the Korean Conflict on the front lines as a medic, where he achieved the rank of SFC. He was honorably discharged Aug. 5, 1956. In the early 70s, Winnie began the operation of his own construction business. During the years of running that, he was also road commissioner for Deer Isle for 10 years. He always offered a helping hand wherever it was needed around the community. He was a member of the Island Ambulance Corps, served on the committee responsible for the purchase of the first ambulance, a member of the Deer Isle Fire Department, where he served as lieutenant, a member of the American Legion and the Masonic Lodge from which he recently received his 50-year membership medal. Some of his hobbies included gardening, hunting, fishing and lobstering. On May 24, 1953, he married his wife of 59 years, Rosamond Linnie Eaton, who survives him. He is also survived by his son, David Keith Sewall of Deer Isle; his daughter, Valerie Ann Sewall Duncan and her husband, Peter, of Underhill, Vt.; two grandchildren of whom he was extremely proud and loved dearly, Nicholas Peter Duncan of Topsham and Andrea Jade Duncan of Underhill, Vt.; two sisters, Jeannette Ducheman and Janice (Sewall) Fisher and her husband, Charles; several nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and friends. Winslow was predeceased by his parents; his brothers, Roger and Kenneth; and his sister, Dorothy Chapman."
