http://hartgen.renderplus.com/htm/cloyes.htm offers in 2014: "Peter Cloyes I - was born about 1539 in Clois, France and died in 1576 in Colchester, Essex, England .
Peter married Ellen Hollandt in 1563. She is the daughter of John Hollandt. Peter - The name Clyes is frequent in Devon, England. There is a Cloise, France. (Genealogical History of Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont) The name is also spelled CLOYSE, CLAYES, CLOYE, CLOICE. From the records of Saint Nicholas Parish, Colchester, England as given by the Rev. Canon M. M. Martin, M. A. of St. James Rectory, East Hill, Colchester, England. Peter Cloyse was a member of St. Nicholas Parish in early 1500. He apparently came over from France during the Flemish immigration. (info provided by Tom Cloyes from "Cloyes and Dagwell Family Genealogies" by Mrs. F. H. Obetz, July 1972, in his possession) Cloyes-sur-le-Loir is a village southwest of Paris. In the "artist district" of Paris there is a Cloys Hotel and a Rue de Cloys. This area can be located on a map and is north of the river. There is also Cloyes-sur-Marne which is east of Paris, and is a very small village. In 1212 Stephen of Cloyes, then aged 12, led the Children's Crusade. The Cloyes name can also be traced to Lincolnshire, England in the 1500's."
