On the 17th of April, 1884, he was married to Clarissa B. Briner. To them were born two children, Claire A. McMahon of Ness City, and Sadie V. Wilson of Douglas, Kansas. The mother of these children passed away July 5, 1917. After her death he continued to make his home at this place, devoting his time to the care of fruits and flowers. That he was a lover of the beautiful in flowers and music can be attested by all who knew him. He went from this life about seven oclock in the evening of June 5, 1930.

He had two great grandchildren in whom he was greatly interested, Elizabeth Lucille Fritts of Dayton, Ohio and Loralee Warnock of LaGrande, Ore.
For a number of years, Mr. Pottorf was caretaker of the beautiful Pleasant View cemetery beneath whose whispering pines his body will now rest, and it was the pride of his heart. Its present state of beauty is due in great measure to his devoted care, he having spent most of his waking hours for months and years amid its trees and shrubs and blooming flowers and familiarized himself with every family lot and grave. He passed from this life as he would have passed quietly and peacefully and his body will rest where he would have it rest, amid the lovely surroundings of his cherished Pleasant View.
