"News-Journal [Mansfield, Ohio], 6 May 1969," p. 3: "Shelby - Ira C. Pettit, 88, of 21 East Jefferson Ave., died early this morning in Mansfield Memorial Homes following a four - month illness. Mr. Pettit was born Dec. 16, 1880, in Richland county and spent most of his life in this area. He as a retired farmer and a member of the Auburn Baptist Church. Surviving are two daughters, Miss Edna Pettit and Miss Ila Pettit, both of Shelby; one son, Max Pettit of Yuma, Ariz.; six grandchildren; four great-grandchidren; and four brothers, Bentley Pettit and Wilbur Pettit, both of Mansfield, Willard Pettit of Shelby and Charles Pettit of Portland, Org."
