The first grist mill in Decatur County was built by James Harris. His son, Merideth, grandfather of Margie Lula Alice Harris settled nead Cub Creek and built his own grist mill. This was his means of making a living for his large family of ten girls and two boys. Most of the girls were red haired. James Harris had a long and useful life just missing the century mark by seven years. His son, Hezekiah B. Harris, was very young man when the war broke out between the states but though he was old enough to help out and by moving his age up a year or two, joined the 7th Tennessee Cavalry."
