http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cesare_d'Este offers: "Born in Ferrara, Cesare was the illegitimate son of Alfonso d'Este, fourth son of Alfonso I d'Este, marquis of Montecchio, and the cousin of Alfonso II d'Este, duke of Ferrara and Modena.
"When the latter died without heirs in the October 1597, Cesare received the Duchy. The legitimacy of the succession was recognized by the Emperor Rudolph II but not by Pope Clement VIII: thus, as Ferrara was nominally a Papal fief, the city was returned to the Papal States, despite the attempts of the young duke, who sued for help to the major powers of the time, but obtaining no help.
"The capital was therefore moved to Modena where he entered on January 30, 1598. His first years were troublesome: apart from the inadequate residence, he had to face the quarrels between the Modenese and Ferrarese nobles who had come with him, the attempt of independence of Maro Pio of Sassuolo and a war against Lucca for the possession of Garfagnana.
"On January 30, 1586 he married Virginia de' Medici, daughter of Cosimo I de' Medici. She however suffered of increasing symptoms of madness, until her death in 1615.
"Cesare was a mild and religious man, however lacking of political intelligence. He was succeeded by his son Alfonso."
http://www.nationmaster.com/encyclopedia offers concerning the House of Este: "The origins of the family, of Frankish nobility, date back to the time of Charlemagne in the early 9th century when they settled in Lombardy. Alberto Azzo d'Este II (996-1097) built a castle at Este, near Padua, and named himself after it. He had three sons from two marriages, two of whom became the ancestors of the two branches of the family. . . "

[40772] Anson was a shoemaker, station agent, constable and volunteer fireman. Ancestry.com offers: "Litchfield Name Meaning - habitational name from Lichfield in Staffordshire. The first element preserves a British name recorded as Letocetum during the Romano-British period. This means 'gray wood', from words which are the ancestors of Welsh llwyd 'gray' and coed 'wood'. By the Old English period this had been reduced to Licced, and the element feld 'pasture', 'open country' was added to describe a patch of cleared land within the ancient wood. habitational name from Litchfield in Hampshire, recorded in Domesday Book as Liveselle. This is probably from an Old English hlif 'shelter' + Old English scylf 'shelf', 'ledge'. The subsequent transformation of the place name may be the result of folk etymological association with Old English hliĆ°, hlid 'slope' + feld 'open country'."
