He married Ella Etta Coughlin (v) on March 11, 1882, in Windsor, Vermont. They had six [known] children in 21 years. He died on July 25, 1917, in Bridgewater, Vermont, at the age of 58. When Ella Etta Coughlin (v) was born on September 3, 1863, in Weathersfield, Vermont, her father, Thomas, was 45, and her mother, Mary, was 29. She married Francis Henry Hickory . . . . She then married Martin C Cowdry on October 28, 1918, in Lebanon, New Hampshire. She died on January 25, 1939, in her hometown at the age of 75, and was buried in Windsor, Vermont.

Abbott Gates Newton, 93, retired Methodist minister of Blanchester, father of Marion residents, died at 4:30 a. m. today in the Har-Vel rest home in Mt. Gilead. He had been ill two months. Born Aug. 13, 1856, in Missouri, he was a son of Azariah and Katherine Court Newton. Beginning his ministry in Cincinnati in 1888, he served various pastorates in that area for years, then retired in 1921. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Margaret Newton, whom he married Aug. 25, 1892, and children, Mrs. Guy Birch and Miller Newton, both of Marion, and two grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 2 p. m. in the Hannah funeral home at Blanchester. Burial will be in the I.O.O.F. cemetery there."
