Sarah was first m. to Henry Miller.
Sarah's obituary from The People's Advocate & Press, 22 March 1905: "Sarah A., relict of the late John Sanderson, of Centre township, died at the home of her son, Elmer E.Sanderson, Esq., at Saxton, Pa., Friday morning of last week, from the effects of a stroke of paraysis, received on the 8th inst., never rallying as to her powers of movement, but her mind remained clear until death.
"Sarah A. Sanderson was a daughter of the late Samuel and Mary Rice, of Buffalo Mills, Saville township, and was born Dec. 27, 1816, and at her death was aged 88 years, 2 months and 20 days. She was married to John Sanderson, of Saville township. She resided at Ickesburg until after the war, when with her husband they removed to Centre township, purchasing the Beard farm, and later the farm southeast of this place, where Mr. Sanderson died and where his wife made her home until her death.
"The following children survive her: George W. Sanderson, Esq., of Huntingdon, Pa.; Mrs. Kate Heston, of this place; John M., of Roanoke, Va., and Elmer E., of Saxton, Pa. S.K. died in Saxton, Pa., some years ago, and Hon T.C., formerly of the same place, and later of Harrisburg, died in that city three years ago. She is also survived by the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. Mary Carl, of Carroll township; Mrs. Fannie Hench, Mrs. Susan Kell, Mrs. Julia Kell, Mrs. Ellen Meminger and Conrad Rice, of Saville township; Sam'l H. Rice, of Milford, Neb., and J.W. Rice, of North Dakota.
"Easter Sunday, 1835, Mrs. Sanderson joined the Lutheran Church under the ministration of the sainted Father Helm, and continued steadfast in the faith until her death. She attended devine services until failing health prevented and in her later years delighted in recounting the experiences of her earlier years in her Master's service and looked forward to each Easter Sunday as marking an eventful day in her Christian life.
"The deceased was a woman of remarkable physical powers until the past year, when she began rapidly to fail. At her advanced age her rapid gait and quick movements were those of persons thirty years her junior. Her mind was wonderfully clear and active and it was a great privilege to her many friends to listen to her recounting the scenes and incidents of her youth---always detailed with great lucidity. She never lost interest in current events and was measurably well informed on the happenings of the day.
"During the past few years she spent a large portion of her time, especially the winter, with her sons at Saxton, Huntingdon and Harrisburg, however, always claiming her home at her residence in Centre township, to which she was strongly attached. She was greatly beloved by her children and all filial courtesy was hers at their respective homes. She had a wide circle of friends also who held her in highest esteem and who, with children and other relatives, will sincerely mourn her death. A fond mother and good woman has gone to her last home and awaiteth her just reward.
"The remains of the deceased were brought to the residence of her daughter, Mrs. Heston, in this place, Saturday evening. Services were held in the Lutheran Church Monday morning at 10:30 o'clock, her pastor, Rev. C.M. Nicholas, officiating, who took his text Job 5:26. "Thou shalt come to thy grave in a full age like as a shock of corn cometh in in his season", her nephew, Rev. Dr. J.W. Meminger, of Lancaster, Pa., assisting, after which the remains were conveyed to the old graveyard to rest beside those of her deceased husband. The pall bearers were Philip Roth, Willis Crist, W.F. Comp, John Hallman, L.H.C. Flickinger and Daniel Briner.
