Hooper, 64, Lubec - On April 17, 2022, at Mass General Hospital, peacefully left his earthly vessel to transition to his heavenly home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on, July 22, 1957, in Lubec, Maine, the son of Colby and Wilma Hooper. In 1979, He married the love of his life, Roberta. In the past 42 years, Doug has created great memories with Bobby. Doug loved to serenade Bobby while playing one of his many instruments and the songs he had written just for her. Doug was well known for his practical jokes, could fill a room with laughter, and no one was a stranger; just a friend he had not met. For over 20 years, Doug served on the security team at the Cutler Navy Base. He had a love of painting. One of his masterpieces was hand delivered to Former President Bush and is displayed at his home here in Maine. You may have had a privilege to hear Doug on his gospel radio station. Most of all, Doug had a love for his Savior. In 2013, he opened the doors to Down East Faith Tabernacle where he had a great compassion for people and a desire to tell people of God's love. Doug will be greatly missed by his wife, Roberta and his faithful companion, Lady Bell; his mother, Wilma; sisters, Elaine and her husband, Willie, and Sue and her husband, David; brother, Byron; nieces and grandnieces; as well as his stepchildren, Joe and his special friend, Annmarie and her husband, Victor, along with three stepgranddaughters. Doug was predeceased by his father, Colby Hooper."

When in his teens, Samuel's family moved to Barnstable, Mass., 1639 - he remained there and was ordained a "teaching elder" (local minister) 15 April 1640. He became a fisherman and sailing master. Capt. Samuel Mayo was ordained a teaching elder (minister) on Apr. 15, 1640 at Barnstable, MA, but he was mostly a mariner. When his parents moved to Eastham, MA. in 1646, he stayed in Barnstable. He was captain of the ship "Desire" in 1650. Samuel took some settlers and their belongings to Oyster Bay, L.I., N.Y. in 1653. He moved to Boston, MA by 1658 and died within six years. Samuel's siblings are from Mariah Lawson and not verified.
[In 2003 Jean Mayo-Lakatos (mayolak@tampabay.rr.com) shared: It is my strong opinion that the Samuel Mayo(born ca. 1625), who was a passenger of the ship, "True Love", in 1635, that went from Gravesend, Kent, England to Bermuda, IS NOT the Samuel Mayo, son of Rev. John Mayo. After doing much research in Bermuda, Barbadoes, and even in Kent, England, everything points to the assumption that these two Samuel Mayo's are not the same person. The Bermuda Archives and other sources in Bermuda stated that the "True Love" was a "white slave" ship...or a ship of indentured servants whose indenture periods often lasted for 99 years. They stated that a boy of 10 years, even if he survived the voyage to Bermuda, would have had a strong likelihood of not living through his first year in Bermuda, as these children were often treated harshly, and even more so, if they dared to try to run away. I have found no record of Samuel Mayo after he landed in Bermuda. Several of the limited number of adults on the ship were active in the white slave trade and many of them owned slaves or indentured servants themselves, including Rev. John Oxenbridge, who was on the ship also. I am trying to locate the origins of Samuel Mayo of the "True Love" in London, or in Kent, England, but as of this date, I have been unable to locate information about Samuel nor about his family origins in Kent, England nor in London.
Capt. Samuel Mayo and his partners owned a ship called "Desire" and he brought some settlers and their belongings to Oyster Bay, L.I., NY, and in 1653 was associated with the Wright's, Dickinson's, and others in the purchase of Oyster, Bay, L.I. from the Indians...in particular, Asiapum. They were called joint purchasers. They gave the Indians 6 Indian coats, 6 kettles, 6 hoes, 6 hatchets, 3 pairs of stockings, 30 blades or heads for spears, 20, knives, 3 shirts, wampum, and black wampum...in exchange for the land. Anthony Wright and Capt. Samuel Mayo signed the agreement with the Indians.
The Dickinson's and Wright's settled there...and for a very short time, so did Samuel Mayo. He had 2 children born there in 1654 and 1656. His next child was born in Boston, MA. in 1658. Samuel had gone to live in Boston where his father was minister of the Second Church of Boston. Capt. Samuel Mayo died by April, 1664 in Boston. Anthony Wright made a conveyance of land which contained part of his "home lot" , and included some land purchased by him from the heirs of Samuel Mayo, one of the original settlers of 1653. The first mention in the records of the ownership by Anthony Wright of part of the "home lot "of Mayo, is shown in an appraisment of Mayo's estate dated June 3, 1671 (Town Records of Oyster Bay. Vol.1, p.63). Anthony Wright later deeded this property to his nephew, Job Wright. This information came from "The Wright Family of Oyster Bay, L.I." compiled by Howland Delano Perrine and from "Rev. John Mayo and His Descendants" by Jean Mayo Rodwick, published in 2001. What is really interesting is that my ancestor, Capt. Samuel Mayo (I am descended from his brother, Lt. John Mayo) brought my Dickinson and Wright ancestors from Cape Cod to Oyster Bay. Then he went back to Boston. My Mayo's went from Cape Cod to Bar Harbor, Maine to Houlton, Maine. My Wright's and Dickinson's went to Dutchess County, N.Y. to New Brunswick, Canada to Houlton, Maine. And in Houlton, Maine and just over the border in N.B., Canada, the descendants met up hundreds of years later and intermarried with each other! My Wright's and Dickinson's were early Quakers but eventually became Baptist. My Mayo's were Puritans and Congregationalists but eventually became Baptist. My Wright's and Dickinson's were Loyalists but my Mayo's were not. Funny how things work out...and it all goes to show that we are all related if we go back far enough!

[24215] Find A Grave Memorial 13140273 offers: "Jacob Wagner Jr. was the son of Jacob Wagner (b. ca. 1693, d. 1754) and Anna Maria Jung. He arrived in America on September 20, 1738 with his parents aboard the ship 'Friendship' . Jacob was married to Louisa Huber. He was born in Nottingen, Germany. He is mentioned in all the Lehigh County histories with his father, as a pioneer settler of Macungie Township, and a founding member of the Lehigh Zion Church in 1745/1750, which he served in the responsible position of elder. He was naturalized in Lehigh County in March 1764. He seems to have been a community leader, both in Lehigh County and in Mahantongo. He served in the War of the Revolution, along with his 3 sons-in-laws.. In 1776 he served as a private in Capt. John Arndt's Company of Associators and Militia in Northampton Co. Our ancestor was the patriarch of the overland migration of our Lehigh County families who made new homes in the Mahantongo wilderness after the Revolution. He and his oldest son-in-law Daniel Maurer bought land together in Mahantongo in 1793, and the Heplers and others followed. Shortly after 1800 Jacob Wagner was one of the founders of the St. Jacob's or Howerter's Union Lutheran and Reformed Church to which most of our Mahantongo ancestors belonged. Jacob and Louisa are buried in Howerter's Cemetery, in Upper Mahantongo Twp., Northumberland County. His is the oldest grave (1802) marked in the cemetery. The Schuylkill and Northumberland County line runs through the cemetery, part in Northumberland and part in Schuylkill. The Wagners lived in Schuylkill and Northumberland Counties and their records are found in both counties. Jacob and Louisa had 10 children, all of whom were born in Lehigh County. Jacob pre-deceased his mother, not named in her will. It appears that the Wagners daughters, with their husbands moved to Schuylkill County with their parents. All the girls married men from the same general area of Lehigh County. Two never married. The three girls that did marry all had husbands who also served in the Revolutionary War. Thus this unusual family, you find Jacob Wagner Jr. and all his sons-in-law, all buried in Howerter's Cemetery . All four of them patriots of the Revolution. - Jacob Wagner Family Page Source: The Wagner Family History, by Avice Hepler Morgan. First Edition, Gateway Press Inc., Baltimore, 1997.
