[21494] http://burgessgenealogy.net in 2002 reports: "Jacob helped to repair the meeting-house in 1644, and was early a member of the church. He served the town for many years in the subordinate offices of surveyor, constable and grand juror. He took the oath of allegiance in 1657. He inherited, in behalf of his son Thomas, the paternal estate in Sandwich while the other brothers removed. This Thomas was a child of four years, when the grandfather made his will, and entailed to him the old homestead, both in honour of his name and to perpetuate the estate in the family. Having no male heir surviving, he constituted Zaccheus, the eldest son of his brother Jacob, as his true and lawful heir, giving him a deed of the homestead, dated February 18, 1754. In Hiam's book BURGESS GENEALOGY, cousin Katharine writes 'Both Rev. Burgess and American Nyes state that Jacob2 had a dau., Mary. I find no record of her. Burgess thought she m. Christopher Gifford of Conway. A 'Mercy' Burgess of Sandwich m. Christopher Gifford of Conway, but not until Oct. 1792 (Conway VR, 150). She was a descendant of John2 Burgess, a dau. of Nathaniel5 and Mercy (Crowell) Burgess of Sandwich. It is possible that the death date given above by Rev. Burgess for Benjamin(3) is that of his son, Benjamin4, who d. Feb. 10 1752/3 (Chilmark VR), since it seems unlikely father and son would die the same year. Sandwich VR gave 1660 as the year in which Jacob2 Burgess and Mary Nye were m. Surely 1670 is correct since their 1st child was b. March 1671. The Nye family has memorialized Benjamin Nye and his wife, Katherine Tupper, with a bronze plaque set in a rock that stands across from the Sandwich Glass Museum and opposite the Sandwich Town Hall. The inscription reads, 'We best serve the interests of posterity by treasuring the memory of our ancestors.' Rev. Burgess gives Mary Nye's death date as June 2% but American Nyes says June 22. I felt it was appropriate to agree with the Nyes.'" The Internet site gives further descendants through Jacob and Mary's son, Ebenezer (b. 2 Oct 1673, d. 22 May 1750).
[43423] "Ancestors of a 21st century British family" at http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com in 2017 provides Josias' information and ancestry, and states: "Josias de Robillard left France at, or before, the Revocation [of the Edict of Nantes, October 22, 1685], leaving property valued at 19,000 livres (T.T. 232). He and his wife, Marie de La Rochefoucauld, appear in a List of Fugitives, 1685*, from Saintonge. They left a daughter, aged 4, who was placed in a convent. She was probably Marie Thérèse de Robillard, whose guardian, Philippe Benjamin de Mazières, sgr. du Passage, claimed the property of Josias de Robillard and his wife, "fugitifs de Xaintonge" (Arch. Presidial de Saintes. B). Their son Josias was naturalised in England 24 March 1689, and was called "Joseph Campagne" in the Naturalisation Roll. He died at Portarlington, where he was buried, 4 May 1737, having married Lady Jane Forbes (Granard). The de Robillard family were connected by marriage with that of Prévost de Touche-Imbert. It was still represented at Portarlington in 1793. * It seems they in fact fled in 1687? --- Robillard De Champagne was a noble family in Saintonge, several of whom took refuge in England and Ireland. The children of Josias de ROBILLARD, chevalier of Champagne, under the charge of their mother, escaped from La Rochelle concealed in an empty wine cask and arrived safe at Plymouth. Their father went into Holland and took service with the Prince of Orange. He afterward died at Belfast on his way to join his regiment in Ireland. Madame de CHAMPAGNE settled at Portarlington with her family. One of the CHAMPAGNE's sons, Josias, was an ensign in La Melonniere's Regiment of French infantry and fought at the Boyne. He afterward became a major of the 14th Foot. Several of his descendants served with distinction in the army, the Church and the civil service, while the daughters of the family have intermarried with various titled families in England and Ireland."

[2658] Flavius Valerius Constantius (called Chiorus - "the Pale") was b. ca. 250 per Encyclopaedia Britannica ('56; 6:313), and "was of Illyrian origin. Having distinguished himself by his military ability and his able and gentle rule of Dalmatia, he was, on March 1, 293, adopted and appointed Caesar by Maximian. In the distribution of the provinces Gaul and Britain were allotted to Constantius. ...During the persecution of the Christians in 303 he behaved with great humanity. He obtained the title of Augustus on May 1, 305, and died the following year before July 25 at Eboracum (York) during an expedition against the Picts and Scots." The somewhat fanciful ancestry shown in this database is from John Duran, 4/92, and is not verified (this ancestry continues back to Philip of Macedonia and his son, Lagos "The Rabbit"). http://www.stirnet.com/HTML/genie/ancient/ms/romans2.htm states that Constantius I divorced Helen and m.
